BLVMENKIND mesmerises with genre-bending banger ‘On My Own’

Swiss-based BLVMENKIND (Gabriel Brönnimann) released his new single, ‘On My Own’, featuring Tom Wavy on the 22nd of September through Paradise Lost. His sound is an eclectic blend of electronica, pop, classical music and experimental sound design. He released his first official single ‘Dream With You’ featuring Sam Darton back in 2017. An immediate success, the track gained over 10 million streams on Spotify, YouTube and Soundcloud. Since then, he has received support from numerous publications, radio stations and popular YouTube channels. He has also appeared at RADAR Festival and EXIL Club in Zurich, as well as supporting popular French DJ  Fakear on his Talisman 2023 Tour.

On My Own’ is an impressive blend of Drum and Bass and Pop. Tom Wavy’s plaintive vocals, accompanied by delicate atmospheric chords and tastefully-chosen effects, set the emotional tone for the track. The song slowly builds in intensity, eventually erupting with an explosive DnB breakbeat accompanied by emotionally-charged harmonies, which contrasts beautifully with the gentle pop-esque vocals and melancholy but hopeful lyrical content. The song’s excellent production and composition allow it to tell its story of love, loss and hope with ease and style.

BLVMENKIND commented: ‘On My Own’ is a song that I created quite early in the album production cycle in 2018. Back then, it only was a rough demo of a piano melody and a drum and bass loop. It stuck with me because the melody is very melancholic and lonesome but still has an optimistic feeling to it, which very well presented the situation I was in at that point of life but still is relatable today”.

September 27, 2023 The Valmonts invite you to ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’ with their melodious new single

The Valmonts invite you to ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’ with their melodious new single

Dublin-based Indie rock/pop band The Valmonts released their new single ‘Cry & Get A Little Drunk’ on the 15th of September via Watts Hill Records. The single will come off of their upcoming EP Living In A Paranoid Trance. The band is composed of Darragh Whyte (vocals, guitar), Keith Whyte (Drums), Cathal Sweeney (Guitar), and Tymek Kocurkiewicz (Bass). Falling in love with music at a young age, The Valmonts were hatched and nurtured in one of their parents’ garages in Galway and have since blossomed into a successful pop rock powerhouse. Their influences include the likes of New Radicals and INXS. Their music has also been featured on major publications like CLASH and received airtime on over 50 international radio stations.

‘Cry And Get A Little Drunk’ is about finding solace in the universality of heartbreak and lost love, and the complicated feelings that arise from it. Jam-packed with a moving combination of emotion and energy, its pop elements give it a catchy danceability. However, the rock elements, reminiscent of the explosive boy bands of the 2000s (think The Kooks or The Vaccines), lend the song its depth and passion. The verses are minimal, measured and introspective while the choruses erupt with emotion, lush power chords, crashing drums and a fervent, full-bodied vocal delivery. The song is extremely moving and poignantly human – and you won’t be able to get the melody out of your head.

“This song came together in the most natural way possible,” the band said.“The four of us one day at rehearsal jamming. Darragh had some lyrics he had previously been working on and by the end of the day, we had a full new song. Recording it was a whole other story. There are more guitar tracks on this song than we can count”.

Tristan de Liege and Jambal create musical alchemy on ‘Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment’.

Established electronic/downtempo producer Tristan De Liège has teamed up with up and coming alternative jazz quartet Jambal on their new album Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment, released on the 15th September 2023. The album showcases the focus track, ‘The Great Wave,’ along with their previously released singles, ‘Uncertainties‘ and ‘Collisions Of Light.’ These earlier releases earned recognition on Spotify Editorial Playlist State Of Jazz, as well as acclaim from CLASH Magazine and airplay on UK National radio station Jazz FM, hosted by John Osborne. Additionally, ‘The Great Wave,’ serving as the album’s focus track, has already received early praise from EARMILK.

Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment is a bewitching meeting point for these artists – it is a delicate nu jazz odyssey that combines the modern electronic elements of downtempo with the timeless, improvisatory feel of jazz. The instrumentation is understated but undoubtedly sophisticated – you can tell that every musician involved really knows what they are doing. The band moves between quiet, slow motifs and busy crescendos with ease. The rhythm section steers the music with complicated but engaging meters, tastefully pulling back at times to let the melodies and harmonies shine through. Its masterful, moving and deeply intricate at all times.

This collaboration is very special to us, for many reasons,” the artists commented. “It is Tristan’s first foray into making a jazz album with a band, and it is Jambal’s first full-length album. Jambal’s European jazz aesthetics meeting Tristan’s inspirations from living in Los Angeles and collaborating with electronic and jazz players there resulted in a beautiful and interesting synergy that was surprising and fruitful – leading to a unique set of tracks that neither would have made on their own. The pieces also have a wide range of emotional expression and narrative, showcasing the full range of both Tristan’s composing approach and Jambal’s performance and interpretation”.

Premiere: Artela shares electrifying electro-pop anthem ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’.

Born in Taiwan and raised between the US and her home nation, London based producer and singer-songwriter Artela released her raging heartbreak-anthem ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ on the 21st of September 2023.

Artela’s music is a reaction to her experiences growing up in a conformist society that she didn’t fit into. And her strength as a lyricist shines through the track, as she explores themes of exclusion and societal expectation, drawing upon her own experiences to offer a candid and emotive artistic expression for her listeners to resonate with.

Fast-Paced, frantic, and emotive, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ is an amalgamation of electro-pop extravaganza and deep dance-ready beats that glitch and simmer. Topically exploring themes of love and rejection, Artela reclaims the sense of rejection she experienced throughout her life, turning it into a positive force for change. As a result, her music is for anyone who feels like they don’t fit in, empowering them to embrace their unique and authentic selves.

A remix of ‘Why Don’t You Love Me‘ by fakehalo will be released in October, 2023.
