TikTok users can now look forward to a new product from the company that brought the world the highly addictive video-sharing social media platform. With a simple hum, users can generate entire songs using the new Ripple app. It is worth noting that the app is still in its beta testing phase, but for those who have access, Ripple offers a world of untapped creativity.

Ripple is unique in that it allows musicians who don’t possess the skill to play an instrument to generate instrumentation at a moment’s notice. Then, they can use the app’s built-in editing feature to cut and shift parts into an arrangement of their choosing, much like audio workstations FL Studio and Ableton are capable of. Only, with Ripple, the process appears to be more mobile-compatible.

“Ripple is designed to inspire musical creativity and help musicians, artists and composers express themselves,” said a ByteDance representative. “We’re excited to see how creators use Ripple to tap into their creativity to soundtrack their own short-form videos.”

Is Ripple the future of digital audio workstations? Who knows. But we do know that it is only a matter of time before TikTok floods with hum-generated music, being that the new app links directly to its sister platform, enabling a seamless segway from music creation to music publication!

Hailing from Puerto Rico, R&B duo COASTCITY has released their new single ‘Afterlife’, a Latin-flavoured record brought to life with the help of Venezuelan artist FABRO. The track was born in an unforgettable session in the city of Buenos Aires. Toeing the line between dark and romantic, the song tells of love continuing into death, extending passed the mortal confines of one lifetime.

‘Afterlife’ is a minimal production that spotlights the vocals. With retro hues akin to the early 2000s scene, bringing forward aspects of Christina Aguilera, the team of musicians add a splash of pop appeal in the lane of The Weeknd to create something mellow yet emotive for fans to soak up.

The artists let us in, saying: “”Afterlife” is the continuation of our last song “Futuro”, its the new Latin R&B sound that bilingual, rhythmic and emotional. It’s COASTCITY’s first time collaborating with FABRO who is an up and coming artist out of Buenos Aires Argentina.”

July 5, 2023 Marianna Winter speaks out in ‘People Pleaser’

Marianna Winter is tired of being mistreated. She tells us so in her new single ‘People Pleaser’, a record precisely addressed what the topic so clearly highlights: the challenges involved in doing for others when they don’t do anything for you. Fans can find the song on digital platforms, out now via Tutl Records.

Stream / Download: Marianna Winter – ‘People Pleaser’

The track is a tightly-woven story. That is, each lyric contributes to the overarching concept, set to a mid-tempo groove of rippling synths and chord-driven bass that bolsters the harmonic progression of the darker pop record. Darker is Marrianna’s style, and she does it well. Her music isn’t heavy but firm and to the point. Thematically, it resembles the attitude conveyed by her previously released single ‘Consequences’.

She speaks directly to listeners: “We all know some people pleasers in our lives. If you don’t then maybe you ARE one… if so, don’t worry. I got you. This year I sought to add a new word to my vocabulary. The word being: no. I found myself saying yes to everything, but I always ended up leaving my attention and well-being unevenly distributed – in both professional and personal relationships. My new goal gave birth to this song, which I hope will empower other people pleasers to give a little less fucks too.”

Admiration is a state, if we can call it that, full of conflicting emotions. There’s a shard of envy in there, a dash of desire to complicate things, an extra helping of high esteem and unconditional regard. It is the recognition of an ideal. An ideal that music tries to reach. Pursuing said ideal and capturing the accompanying emotions, the Indie rock band Black Light White Light has shared an emotionally-turbulent single from their latest album, a project titled The Admirer

Stream / Download: Black Light White Light – The Admirer

“I think the album presents the band’s most personal, versatile and certainly most adventurous release to date,’ said  Black Light White Light. ‘It delivers psychedelic rock, cosmic pop, and piano-driven ballads with wandering melodies, layers of keyboards, sizzling delay guitars, and manipulated effects to an intoxicating mix that jumps and has plenty of edge in 10 songs with personal lyrics about pain, doubt, love and confusion. My most personal songs to date.”

The single, ‘Epilepsy’, sees songwriter and band member Martin Ejlertsen pen a tale that disturbs but entices in its free-flow lyricism. Available now under the Forward Backwards Recordings label.
