Pop musician Lux Lyall offers new song Draw Blood

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and poet Lux Lyall has released her brand new single Draw Blood, described today by Wonderland Magazine as “brimming with haunting melodies and seductive harmonies”. It is the latest song to be taken from her forthcoming second album Runaway Bride out next year via Smoking Mermaid Records.

‘Draw Blood’ presents a shudderingly accurate reality for women facing abuse in relationships. “Is it still love ‘til he draws blood? Is that when you’ve finally had enough?”, sings Lux in these brutally honest musings.

The song is a first-hand account capturing the multitude of complex feelings and emotions found in these tragic circumstances. Musically there’s nods to the 90s with the guitar that grooves from start to finish with a warm blues delay, while the bass and drums add extra sway and richness. Paired with the soulful storytelling from Lux the result calls to mind a melding of Hole, The Bad Seeds and PJ Harvey.

Regarding the new single Lux says, “‘Draw Blood’ is actually about multiple things. A few years ago I was finally open with my therapist about an assault that happened while I was dating someone when I was younger; I was pretty closed about it after it happened because I actually felt guilty for staying in the relationship afterwards. Now I know I basically shut the whole thing out because I didn’t want to face it, it’s still hard to talk about.

“Reflecting on that a few years ago while in another romantic situation that made me feel stifled, I wrote the chorus about being angry at what I’d put up with, and what a lot of my friends were still putting up with in abusive situations. The verses are more about how trapped I felt at the time.

“I was watching a few of my guy friends going on tour and I was happy for them and envious at the same time. I kept thinking about the concept of “being with the band” and how I’d been that way when I was young and all it did was give me trauma! I’m trying to say I don’t want to be with the band anymore I want to BE the band.”

‘Draw Blood’ is the latest song to be taken from Lux Lyall’s forthcoming second album Runaway Bride and follows the release of the dramatic lead single ‘Bonesaw’ earlier this year. The darkly cinematic slasher horror alt-pop song also received a twisted ethereal remix from Jessica Winter.

Runaway Bride will follow the release of Lux Lyall’s highly praised 2020 debut album VAMP, which received strong critical support from the likes of The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Wonderland and many more.

Born in London, but brought up in Cyprus where her Pakistani mum and half-Sri Lankan, half-Dutch dad moved for work when she was six weeks old, Lux grew up immersed in vintage American movies because that was all there was to watch. Proving highly influential to Lux, this film noir doused her creativity creating a dark and decadent musical world where her theatrical songs meld the glamorous nostalgia of Hollywood with modern, dark pop sensibilities, laced with an enchanting mystique.

For Immediate Release: Revered synth quartet Ladytron recently premiered the lead single ‘City Of Angels’ from their upcoming Time’s Arrow LP, earning praise from Flood for its “rich, industrial textures and utopian, shoegaze melodies”, Brooklyn Vegan on its “motorik rhythms” and Spin for its “icy synth-powered sound”. Today, they unveil the track’s haunting video thriller, directed by Manuel Nogueira, just in time for Halloween.

As the band have often said: “Where we are from it is always Halloween.” While the song inverts sensuous imagery into a vision of the future collapse of cultural memory, the visual infuses these themes into a beautifully chilling setting. It’s a choreographed musical thriller inspired by cult favourites Roeg and Argento, shot in the brutalist mansion of architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The band haunts the set that surrounds lead actress Bianca Comparato, the star of the Netflix science fiction drama 3%, who brings her supernatural acting skills to the forefront as she plays a photographer entranced and drawn in by a mysterious force – the next A24 horror hit waiting to happen! Bianca comments,  “I’m such a fan of Ladytron – I was lucky enough to be in the music video…the whole experience was a dream come true”.

This is not the first time Ladytron has released a video around Halloween. Reminiscent of J.G. Ballard and video artist Chris Cunningham, 2019’s Deadzone, directed by regular collaborator Bryan M. Ferguson, depicts two survivors of a car crash interlocked in a morbid post-modern dance. The scene opens on two vehicles that have collided head-on. Wired Mag said, “Really working the Ballardian in this one.” Additionally, the concept for 2008’s Ghosts was inspired by Stephen King’s Christine, while Mirage was heavily influenced by 1970s occult thrillers like the Wicker Man.

City of Angels” is the first single from Ladytron’s upcoming album, Time’s Arrow, returning to their themes/motifs of beauty, disposability and fragility of the culture that surrounds us, and the exhilaration of freeing yourself from those structures. Listeners can expect crystalline melodies enveloped in icy textures and rippling arpeggios, shoegaze, disco, and industrial sounds that combine in their signature electro-pop style.

Forming in Liverpool in the late 90s and taking their name from the gloriously blank Roxy Music track, Ladytron’s debut album 604 was released a year ahead of 2002’s Light&Magic with Witching Hour in 2005 – “a quantum leap record” said Pitchfork. The group were lauded as leaders of the new electro-pop and electroclash scenes then flourishing, and Light&Magic went on to be influential, for both independent and mainstream electronic-pop music which followed.

Next up, 2008’s Velocifero, before 2011’s more serene, dreamy Gravity the Seducer and the cue for a deserved break which lasted years longer than imagined. Along the way they wrote and produced for other artists, including Lush and Christina Aguilera. The group reconvened in 2019 for an album that Q Magazine called “near perfection”, with Mojo insisting that in “Dark times, Ladytron soundtrack them beautifully”. GQ described it as “Formidable machine music, full of urgency and menace.” While NPR posited that “Ladytron seems enraptured at the idea of change, and of new beginnings in the face of a possible fiery end”.

Entrepreneur and skilled singer-songwriter Jacob Lee offer his brand new single ‘Sick & Tired’ via Philosophical Records on the 2nd of December. Hailing from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Jacob enjoys the title of the first NFT musician in Australia coupled with recognition from numerous tastemaker publications including Clash Magazine, Music Feeds and Rolling Stone India just to mention a few.

Stream / Download: Jacob Lee – ‘Sick & Tired’

This new song is a ballad that contains a very charming melody that successfully distracts listeners from the negative and sombre title. Ultimately, ‘Sick & Tired’ boasts an impressive musical sound with seducing nuances in the melody that are laced with dispersed and structured drum beats that are felt in the innermost part of the heart. The track entices the auditory senses like a members-only club that only serves aged wine.

Jacob Lee elaborates on his personal connection with the new song with these words: “Sick & Tired’ could be one of my most important songs yet. Iterating my perspective on the modern world, I packaged this essential message in a chill, ethereal track”.

Musician GARRETT PAKNIS shares new song

London-based American musician/performance artist GARRETT PAKNIS returns with a brand new release ‘NEED FROM YOU’, lifted from the forthcoming EP due later this year.

Hot on the heels of his recent single, ‘BAD BEHAVIOUR’, ‘NEED FROM YOU’ continues the next phase of GARRETT PAKNIS’ blossoming career, following on from the recent acclaimed EP ‘Move Ur Body’ released earlier this year.

Accompanied by a sultry, seductive empowering performance visual clip, he says: “NEED FROM YOU is a fun and sexy track that suits perfectly to a road trip on a sunny day or night out dancing to the early morning hours.  After years of making really emotional and deep tracks, writing about failed relationships and my life on the road as a nomad, I’ve been in this fresh phase with music and life. I’ve been living in London for almost three years, and am really settled and happy here.  I’m feeling free in my body, my mind, and my soul… and I just want that to translate that and give people music they can shake their ass to!  We’ve all been through so much in the last couple of years, so if I can help people forget their worries for a little bit… dust their dancing shoes off… and wiggle their booty… then I feel like I’m doing a good job at life! NEED FROM YOU has that hint of desire and lust when you’re getting to know someone new, but it really is about self-empowerment and feeling that spark from within.  It’s about sharing passion and love… and, isn’t that what makes the world go around?”

About GARRETT PAKNIS:

GARRETT PAKNIS is a poet/rapper/producer/catwalk model blending spirituality and sexuality into forward-thinking dance music. After developing his sound during his years living in Berlin, Germany, a radio opportunity brought him to London, and the New York City-born PAKNIS says he’s never looked back.  Blending UK House music with his signature “moaning poetry”, Wonderland has called him a rising star and his viral success on Instagram and TikTok points to prove this true. The hip-hop-trained dancer and performance artist releases a visual with every single he drops, and ‘BAD BEHAVIOUR’ marks his 25th release in 3 years, making him a prolific artist to watch out for.
