Electro-pop sensation TGC (The Green Children) have released their new single ‘Symbiotic’ via Illuminated City on 17th July. With this track comes the colourful lyric video. Along with performing at Summerfest and recording with Universal Music Group, the duo contribute to several charity outreaches on a regular basis.
These contributions have varied from supporting the charity New Alternatives through a concert benefiting LGBT homeless youth to creating an animated video for a remix of Foster The People’s ‘Houdini’ for SOS Children’s Village.
The philanthropic duo took a step away from their usual projects for a break in sunny Spain. While on the trip, they found inspiration for the synthpop classic, ‘Symbiotic’, with a holiday romance spurring on the imagination.
Barrie, the NYC-based project led by Barrie Lindsay, has shared stripped back versions of “Clovers” and”Chinatown“, two tracks taken from debut album ‘Happy To Be Here‘ which was released earlier this year via Winspear.
The band have also announced new European live dates, including Pitchfork Paris, MIRRORS Festival in London and UK support shows with Charly Bliss. Featuring an intimate performance on a hand-me-down Steinway piano from an old landlord, “Clovers (Alt)”demonstrates Barrie’s dynamic range when it comes to tight pop arrangements. The new take on the debut’s lead single highlights Barrie Lindsay’s versatile musicianship — adding thoughtful layers of cello and trumpet she played and recorded in her New York apartment.
On “Chinatown (Alt)”, Barrie’s soft and dream-like vocal cadence engulfs the track and lulls the listener into a peaceful bliss. Both tracks were finished with Jake Aron (Snail Mail, Solange, Grizzly Bear) who co-produced and engineered ‘Happy To Be Here’. On their debut LP ‘Happy To Be Here’, Brooklyn-based Barrie show a multidimensional take on classic pop sounds, daydreamy but also firmly in the present. Lindsay largely wrote these songs late into the night, alone in her apartment, and her voice feels appropriately full of possibility throughout. ‘Happy To Be Here’ is a softly explosive document of Barrie’s vision for “a well-crafted pop song that’s a little bit fucked up.” The album’s singles speak to its scope: the analog synths that burst from piano pointillism on “Clovers”, the lush electric guitar grooves on opener“Darjeeling”, the minimal arrangement and modular programmed drums of “Saturated”.
Los Angeles-based artist/producer Gryffin has shared an irresistible new single called “OMG,” featuring multi-platinum Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen.
Produced by Gryffin, “OMG” is the latest offering from his forthcoming debut album “Gravity”. “OMG” is an infectious synth-pop powerhouse built on glossy beats and a candy-sweet hook — the ideal accompaniment to Jepsen’s full-hearted vocals. Revealing the subtle brilliance of his sonic approach, Gryffin dreams up a dynamic yet elegant production that never fails to let the song’s massive emotion shine. “Gryffin is a kindred spirit in the way he thinks about music, I’m grateful to be a part of this song,” says Carly Rae Jepsen. Says Gryffin on the song, “OMG was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had in making a record. Getting to work with Carly Rae Jepsen was such an honor as I’ve been a big fan of her work for a long time and I’m so happy with how the track seamlessly blends both of our styles. I hope everybody loves it as much as we do and feels the fun, summery energy of the record.” Due out later this year via Darkroom/Geffen Records, Gravity will also include Gryffin’s previously released singles “Hurt People” (a collaboration with singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc, co-written by Bastille frontman Dan Smith) and “All You Need to Know” by Gryffin with SLANDER ft. Calle Lehmann (a #12 hit on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic chart). In addition, single “Remember” feat with ZOHARA currently holds the #1 spot on Dance Radio. Gryffin made his breakthrough in 2016 with two singles showcasing his melodic take on dance music: “Heading Home” ft. Josef Salvat (which shot to #1 on Spotify’s US and Global Viral charts) and the Bipolar Sunshine collaboration “Whole Heart.”
In addition, his 2017 smash single “Feel Good” — with Illenium and featuring Daya — peaked at #18 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts. Gryffin’s recent triumphs include “Tie Me Down” ft. Elley Duhé (an August release that hit #2 on the Spotify US Viral Chart and #9 on the Global Viral Chart, with over 80 million streams to date) and “Remember” ft. Zohara(a November release that garnered 6.5 million streams in its first few weeks and gained support from Tiesto, who featured the track on an Instagram story).
Following the release of her third full-length album Solutions, which dropped earlier this month on Night Street/Interscope Records, GRAMMY Award-nominated artist K.Flay has delivered another compelling visual, this time for her latest single ‘Sister’.
Picking up from where the ‘Bad Vibes’ video left off, ‘Sister’ is the second part of a visual trilogy that continues the themes of sisterhood and support. Having escaped captivity (from the ‘Bad Vibes’ video), K.Flay and a female companion have broken free, only to find themselves in a world where everyone else seems to be moving backwards.
The video was directed by Clara Aranovich and shot in Downtown Los Angeles. Fun fact: Kristine (K.Flay) and her ‘Sister’ are the only ones moving in forward motion while the world around them is moving in reverse – To create this, Kristine had to learn the song completely backwards (in phonetic gibberish).
Solutions has arrived as a breath of fresh air in this somewhat bleak climate, as K.Flay finds catharsis in these arduous times. The acclaimed album has been highly praised internationally by the likes of the Observer, Sunday Times, Dork, Gay Times, Financial Times, Rock Sound, Classic Pop, Nylon, NPR, Under The Radar, The New York Times and many more.
This autumn, K.Flay brings The Solutions Tour to stages across the globe, with a 19-city run in North America before coming to the UK and Europe in October where she will play in Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Berlin and more.
UK TOUR DATES – OCTOBER 18th – Birmingham, UK – O2 Academy2 19th – Bristol, UK – Thekla 21st – Glasgow, UK – St Luke’s 22nd – Manchester, UK – Gorilla 23rd – London, UK – Heaven
In other news, K.Flay has launched the first of its kind music-focused “microcast” (a shorter form podcast) expressly designed and produced for smart speakers (Amazon and Google Home) around the world. “What Am I Doing Here” is hosted and curated by K.Flay and features conversation, jokes, musical interludes and special guests including Sam Harris (X-Ambassadors), Bishop Briggs, Michael (Fitz and the Tantrums) and many more friends and family.
Equipped with a mobile studio including high quality microphones for her iPhone, apps for recording phone calls and more, “What Am I Doing Here” is recorded 100% live. Whether she decides to record in a supermarket, on the tour bus, or on the phone with her mum or kindergarten age niece, the idea is to transport the listener into her world versus the standard studio recordings. To listen on Alexa, simply say “Alexa, enable K.Flay show” and on Google Home, say “OK Google, talk to K.Flay show.”
