Jimkata are a three-piece anthemic, synth-washed, electro-rock band based out of Ithaca and Los Angeles. With a triumph of swirling analog synths, infectious pop hooks and candid lyrics, Jimkata have built a distinct sound which has been resonating with listeners across the country.

Friends since middle school, Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch and Packy Lunn infuse Jimkata, (named after the so-bad-it’s-good 1985 gym-fu caper Gymkata) with both an adventurous musical streak and relatable lyrical themes. Mixed in with the modern synth sensibilities and hard driven indie rock are influences drawn from the likes of Motown, singer-songwriters like James Taylor and even old country songs, where storytelling and a quick turn of phrase share priorities with melody and the beat. Jimkata have concocted an unusually rich and rewarding mix and one that’s evolved naturally.

After taking a two and a half year hiatus following the release of six studio albums and the successful building of a vibrant, grassroots fanbase, Jimkata are preparing to release their next album, Bonfires. The 10 track album is set for release as a series of singles every month with an accompanying visuals and merch line.  Thematically, Bonfires touches on poignant themes of uncertainty, being in limbo, and looking for an anchor of hope in these trying times.

Bonfires is set for release Spring 2021 worldwide.

November 12, 2020 Band Liss release dance pop anthem ‘Leave Me On The Floor’

Band Liss release dance pop anthem ‘Leave Me On The Floor’

credit: Fryd Frydendahl

“I stay up like we used to watching old videos of every night that meant somethingbefore all the clubs were closed”Søren Holm, Liss

4-piece Danish band Liss are back with a propelling and visceral anthem for all the empty clubs around the world. Between the pulsating beat, heavy bass, enveloping synths, and the familiarity of Søren Holms vocals, ‘Leave Me On The Floor’ is a new turn for the band, while still encompassing all the qualities we love about Liss.

“I miss dancing with people, the contact and communication that arises, the constant back and forth. And I was thinking about how you can have your first meeting on a dancefloor but also your last goodbye. That’s the kind of dialogue we’re trying to put into our songs.”Søren Holm, lead singer, Liss

November 4, 2020 River Into Lake announce new EP, The Crossing

River Into Lake announce new EP, The Crossing

“Impatience” is River Into Lake ́s second single off the 10” EP “The Crossing”, that is to be released on December 4th via Humpty Dumpty Records. In the continuity of the previous album

“Let the beast out”, the EP is tinted by the mix of analog synthesizers and acoustic instruments, and dealing with current problems. Each song is accompanied by a visual from by David Delruelle, which is supporting its point.

“’Impatience’ deals with the anxieties that may have arisen during the crisis we are all living through. Based on a co-written text with Aurélie Muller (Blondy Brownie / Trésor), the track is inspired as much by the prepper wave that has developed terribly in recent years, as by people who rushed into stores at the start of the health crisis- examples that remind us that we are so few in the face of fear and that during this time, the earth continues its cycle around the galaxy…”

September 30, 2020 Indie rock band Catastrophe & Cure releases anticipated music video

Indie rock band Catastrophe & Cure releases anticipated music video

Rock fans and indie rock fans alike, this new music video from award-winning band Catastrophe & Cure is sure to give you chills if you are a fan of the melancholic yet playful energy of 80’s band The Smiths. Catastrophe & Cure have crafted their sound around iconic acts in rock history, and their latest album Somewhere Down The Line features this indie-rock delight.

Previously featured on our blog for the single release, we mentioned our thoughts on the song, “Catastrophe & Cure’s sound on this track is reminiscent of some of your favorite 90’s indie-rock anthems, feeling so familiar I would not see why this single would not feature at a club or on your playlist. “

The band talk about the release, “’Another Wave’ was one of the first songs we recorded for our new album. It almost wrote itself. We had a couple of chords, the lead guitar and all of a sudden the song was finished. It’s a song about the ambivalence of love and about being at the mercy of one’s own emotions. “You’re my love / Yet my downfall / You’re my love / Still my pain”…. you get the idea!”
