Art imitates life in Axel Thesleff’s music video: ‘2 Down’

Axel Thesleff’s popularity has been paced up by his 2014 release, Bad Karma. Which has been streamed more than 500 million times on Youtube and tens of millions more on Spotify and Soundcloud. Axel is widely known for his highly enthralling, cinematic music videos – Bad Karma has reached 48 million views and counting – and his latest piece of work is no different. Thesleff’s “2 Down” music video premieres on his YouTube channel December 4, available on all streaming platforms the same day. The video progressively reveals to listeners a path to letting go of depression and welcoming one’s inner light and forgiveness. Ethereal vocals and synths in flux pair with a mother’s journey through meadows and streams of Lapland as she endures flashbacks of painful memories.

Thesleff says of the release:

“2 Down is about letting go of depression and the cycle of negativity. It’s about letting go of the past and embracing the future, whatever it may hold. It’s about finding your inner light that has always been there, whether you knew or not. It’s about being thankful for life. It’s about love and forgiveness. I hope that through this song, I can help people look at their own darkness straight in the eyes and see it vanish, leaving behind an empty space of their own inner light. I hope to create a feeling of breaking free of the chains in one’s mind, cleansing away negative emotions, and ultimately finding resolve and gratitude in the end. The 2 Down music video depicts a journey of a lonely backpacker in a vast, dreamlike landscape of a never-ending mountain range. The traveller seems to be completely lost in thought. Painful memories start to arise from the past and she is forced to dive into them. She must fight the demons of guilt, blame and sorrow within in order to break free from this mental dissonance and find forgiveness, acceptance and gratitude to replace them. The story is about overcoming the worst of sufferings and clearing one’s mind from agony. It’s about facing one’s deepest fears and painful emotions head on, and growing from them as a person. No one is perfect and sometimes one needs to accept what is in order to move forward in life and strive to do one’s best. Life is short, and we should be spending it loving each other instead of fighting. Ultimately, 2 Down is about gratitude towards life.”

Belau is one of the most promising electronica newcomers around the European music scene. In three years, they had almost 200 live performances in 23 countries. The debut LP, “The Odyssey” won the Hungarian Grammy in best electronic music album category. After their long-awaited sophomore album, titled Colourwave, they release a breathtaking music video plus a mystic night version for “Risk It All” featured Amahla.

“Take You to The Sea” – claims about their compositions. Belau (Peter Kedves and Krisztian Buzas) is a band who tries to provide shelter for the modern human through their music – representing the path to self-awareness through the depth of the individual – by making modern and elegant electronic beats with longing lyrics driven for the solace of the mind. Forever inspired by the fundamental elements of the nature, especially the infinite sea.

The duo had many international successes. In the last years they played almost 200 shows in 23 countries and impressed audiences at renowned festivals like Primavera, Eurosonic, Electric Castle, Sziget, SXSW – to name just a few. Belau was supported by radios like BBC Radio 1 or KEXP and mediums like Clash Music, Billboard, The Line of Best Fit, or Ones to Watch. Their first album won the Hungarian Grammy Award, Belau reached one million streams with earlier releases.

Colourwave which got many great reviews, feedbacks, keeps providing shelter for the modern human through music, where listeners can sink to themselves and their thoughts. “Risk It All” is a song of the possibility. One of our favourite track from the new album. Before the release in February we shot a video for it around some breathtaking European sights. In April of 2021 we would like to release the Deluxe version of Colourwave with some remixes, live sessions, reimagined versions, and a new song. The first tune from it is the night version of Risk It All, which is more mystic, minimal, and darker than the original” – said Belau about the new releases featured the fresh The Ivors Academy Rising Star nominee, Amahala.

Due to COVID 19 crisis Hungary’s No.1 musical export good, Belau had to reschedule their album release tour, which hopefully will start around Autumn. You can always find all the updated information about the new dates or the special splatter vinyl release on their social pages.

Music producer Souvlaki shares his latest electronica masterpiece, song ‘7LUNGS’

After his “Tracks” EP, some singles and collaborations that led the way in his artistic production, Souvlaki announces the release of “Continued Survival”, his second EP, anticipated by the launch of the single “7LUNGS”. The track combines the electronic and ambient sounds that have already become the Italian artist’s trademark with hip-hop and drum&bass influences, in a hybrid between soft atmospheres and grooving rhythm. Slim Gong lends his voice for some top notch hip-hop phrasing in French, adding another layer and a new contamination to a multifaceted and experimental track, which yet gets to sound spontaneous and balanced. Souvlaki, who sinks his musical roots into the solid ground of electronics, ambient and alternative, does not hide his natural will to experiment and push himself into new territories. His creative process reveals his curious and attentive personality.

In his words: “I like ‘7LUNGS’ a lot in terms of writing, but I admit that it was difficult to finish. I wanted to create another “hip-hop” song like “Fellow”, which I published earlier. But the first version of ‘7LUNGS’ could not fit in the sound of the record, it had a nice modern tone but too far from the rest, I was one step away from removing it from the EP. Then fortunately, I was able to find what I was looking for and from there, I built the ending (the drum&bass beat was created by Simone Piccinelli, with whom I collaborated). Dark, obsessive, distorted, a bit as if the song wrecked towards the real sound of the EP. The song still sounded unfinished, a nice base but without the decisive hook. Again, through Simone, I got in touch with Slim Gong and then all the pieces of the puzzle fit together perfectly. His contribution, in French, is probably what makes this song the most complete on the record in my opinion”.

“7 Lungs” is available on all major digital platforms

“Continued Survival” EP, produced by Souvlaki and Simone Piccinelli at La Buca Recording Club and mastered at Woodpecker Mastering will contain 6 unreleased tracks, including the single proposed here and will be officially released on January 15th.
