Danish alternative trio Nelson Can release new song ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’

Danish alternative trio Nelson Can are pleased to reveal they’re new single ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’. The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming 2020 album, following the recently-released lead single ‘Limelight’.

‘I Used to Sleep Through Everything’ is a shadowy, dreamy number that showcases a new side to frontwoman Selina Gin’s versatile vocals and acts as a counterpoint to ‘Limelight’s upbeat tempo—the mood is dark, the pace is calm. Bass player Signe SigneSigne explains of the evocative track: “This song describes the feeling of hours disappearing like sand between your fingers as you yearn for a more carefree time when you didn’t feel so overwhelmed by deadlines and worries.”

The new music comes alongside news of two Danish headline concerts in January 2020, taking the band to ever-greater heights as they play in the biggest venues of their career to date (see below for listings).

The two new singles shine a spotlight on new frontiers for the band, as frontwoman Selina Gin elucidates, “the ethos behind our music is constantly changing and developing, and we’ve deliberately incorporated a more electronic sound into our newer material, which is an approach that will also be apparent on our forthcoming album.”

Since their formation in 2011, Nelson Can have released four records. ‘Limelight’ and ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’ are the band’s latest releases since their previous body of work, EP3. Released in 2017, it was the first to gain the band tangible attention both domestically and abroad, with singles ‘Break Down Your Walls’, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Move Forward’ frequently played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6music and Denmark’s P6 and P3. The period marked a major breakthrough for the band, leading to a string of sold-out concerts in their native Denmark, culminating with a packed appearance at Roskilde Festival 2018, where over 6000 fans showed up for their set on the Avalon stage.

Over the last 8 years, Nelson Can have toured Europe extensively, regularly warming-up for internationally acclaimed bands such as Royal Blood and The Black Keys, and had music synced to productions from Lars von Trier’s Zentropa Film Company, as well as major international advertising campaigns.

They have been banned in China, remixed by Kasper Bjørke, and appeared on Good Morning Denmark. They’ve received praise from Rolling Stone Magazine in both the US, Spain and Germany, have been nominated for several awards including the Zulu Awards, the Carl Prize and have even been awarded the National Art Fund’s award for their latest poster, which was described as a small “masterpiece”.

The three-piece will be revealing further live dates and details of forthcoming material in the coming months.

Ben McKelvey releases indie-rock video for ‘Wild Child’ + shares dates for live shows

Brighton-based multi-instrumentalist Ben McKelvey has shared his video for ‘Wild Child’, a refreshing indie-rock offering, on which he plays all instruments.

Mckelvey is an experienced performer in his own right, having toured extensively with the likes of Wet Wet Wet, Genesis supergroup, Mike & The Mechanics, Marti Pellow and Scouting For Girls. It’s no surprise then that the video is centred around the trials and tribulations facing the travelling musician. “‘Wild Child’ was the last song I recorded for the album. It instantly became my favourite on the record and probably is my favourite I’ve ever written. There’s a lot of emotion in this song and it’s the most personal I’ve ever written. A song based on true events about how being a musician is something you can’t choose to let go when it’s in your blood and how it can destroy personal relationships. A tough song to write but very therapeutic. It was written at a low point in my life but when we get to play it live, it’s just incredible. I guess it’s dedicated to the musicians out there giving it their all.” he says.

All of that said, even the ups, downs and sacrifices that need to be made don’t seem to be able to put McKelvey off the touring life. Catch him on the road – dates below.

Live Performances:

22/06/19   MAGAZIN4, BAD REICHENHALL, GERMANY

Chromatics share new single & video “Time Rider” – announce North American tour.

Chromatics, made up of Ruth Radelet, Johnny Jewel, Adam Miller & Nat Walker, share new single & video “Time Rider” & announce a North American tour.

In “Time Rider”, Chromatics employ the metaphor of a motorcycle as an inter-dimensional bridge between the future and the past. In this dream, the motorcyclist mirrors myths of the grim reaper as Ruth Radelet eerily asks “Can I take your hand? I want to ride with you into the storm.”

Chromatics announce their first public concerts in over 5 years. The last time Chromatics was on stage was for the filming of their Roadhouse appearances in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. This six week North American tour will be the first time the band performs live with vocalist Ruth Radelet in many of the cities. Onstage, the group will be playing their favorite moments from Night Drive, Kill For Love, Cherry, & Dear Tommy.

Montreal’s Desire will be performing in direct support of Chromatics. Front woman Megan Louise sings in French and English over Italo Disco laced Dream Pop. Their single “Under Your Spell” made a splash on the silver screen in Nicolas Winding Refn’s cult classic Drive alongside label mates Chromatics, Electric Youth, & Kavinsky.

From Vancouver, B.C., Italians Do It Better label mates In Mirrors open the nights with their hypnotic brand of Minimal Wave, Krautrock, and Post Punk.

Visually, the entire night features films directed by Johnny Jewel mixed live by video artist Danny Perez (Antibirth, Panda Bear). Bringing a cinematic experience to the concerts, the bands will be blurring the line between stage and screen. European tour dates are set to be announced soon.
