‘gaze’ into the latest experimental release from sweeep and Sace

This past weekend was an interesting one for many reasons but none more so than the collaboration between sweeep and Sace on their latest single, ‘gaze’ via the renowned Secret Souls imprint. The single follows the release of their previous project, burn down my mind which also featured Sace’s side project, Silent Boy. If you’re getting a bit lost, bear with us as we still have few more interesting contenders to enter the ring. Both singles will appear on an upcoming collaborative project spearheaded by lo-fi royalty eevee. Her Secret Souls imprint was created to become the “go to place” to search for mellow and relaxing music.

sweeep and Sace’s ‘gaze’ draws us back to the present day as her ethereal vocals meet the mellow basslines. The single is unhurried, luxuriating in its own synths and finding purchase in the mystical. We wouldn’t be surprised if it found itself on a dark wave playlist or two, flirting with a witch-house track next door.

The two producers tell us about their creation: “Both of us have been known producers in the same underground scene for a few years and its not many people from Stockholm who are into that type of music, so it felt natural that we should work on something together. Now we are both evolving our sounds by adding our vocals on the beats, which could move our music into a new context that is yet to be discovered.”

Music producer Gryffin shares transcending dance song ‘Alive’

Production extraordinaire Gryffin has linked up with regular collaborator Calle Lehmann on new single ‘Alive’.

Steeped in emotion, ‘Alive’ is a rousing single that centres around poignant chords and Lehmann’s impassioned vocals. It follows ‘You Were Loved’, Gryffin’s mammoth collaboration with One Republic, with both tracks set to feature on his forthcoming sophomore album.

Gryffin made his breakthrough in 2016 with two singles showcasing his melodic take on dance music: ‘Heading Home’ ft. Josef Salvat (which shot to #1 on the Spotify US and Global Viral charts) and the Bipolar Sunshine collaboration ‘Whole Heart’. In addition, his 2017 smash single ‘Feel Good’ — with Illenium and Daya — peaked at #18 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts. He then collaborated with pop icon Carly Rae Jepsen on ‘OMG’ and young Swedish talent Maia Wright on 2019 smash ‘Body Back’, both singles that featured on his acclaimed debut album Gravity

Stockholm artist Calle Lehmann has worked with Gryffin on more than one occasion, first lending his vocals to 2019’s ‘All You Need To Know’, a track that earned RIAA Gold certification and has since racked up 176 million global Spotify streams. More recently he featured on ‘After You’, Gryffin’s single with Jason Ross.

On ‘Alive’, Gryffin yet again proves why he is one of the most adored musical artists on the planet.

April 25, 2022 Multi-Instrumentalist Calcou provides vibrant new song

Multi-Instrumentalist Calcou provides vibrant new song

From a static bliss emerges Calcou with his latest single, ‘Below’ released just last week via MFRD+C. The single pairs jazzy influences with ethereal voices but the unmistakable uplifting tone is what consistently carries it all. The single follows the release of both ‘Above’ and ‘Beyond’, paving the way for Calcou’s upcoming EP, Places which will be released mid-May, just in time for the summer months to roll around in the Northern Hemisphere.

Stream /Download: ‘Below’

‘Below’ reflects Calcou’s background as a professional jazz pianist while still incorporating rolling house beats that leave space for the imagination to stretch its legs. If you have a moment, we’d encourage you to take a quick gander at his Instagram page which contains some carefully selected images to present the musician’s artistic style in a new dimension. Whether it be audio or visual, Calcou seems like one to keep an eye on for his creative works.

Below’ features on CHILL_GROUND.fm

The producer tells us about his latest single: “This time I tried to explore space – musically, but also in a broader sense as a feeling of restriction. By leaving certain musical decisions to algorithms, I tried to overcome these restrictions with playfulness and randomness, acknowledging the fact that control seems like an illusion now more than ever. The drums in ‘Below’ circle around a field recording I took when I was walking along the stony beach of Fécamp in Northern France. The vocal elements are from my friend Julian Muller, a singer-songwriter based in the Bay Area in California. Most of the musical elements in ‘Below’ are samples of my own recordings. When things get wobbly and detuned, scattered by slicing or granular synthesis, I get this feeling of innovation and discovery, something nobody else will be able to recreate, even myself, except for that one little lucky moment in time and space.”

April 5, 2022 Q&A with dynamic experimental musician Frank Cogliano

Q&A with dynamic experimental musician Frank Cogliano

Brooklyn based musician Frank Cogliano recently shared his delightfully eclectic and experimental album Computers of the World. Comprised of 17 vibrant tracks, each song has its own unique flair to them. Incorporating downtempo notes, electronica, and ambient sound effects of busy streets and spaces, one can easily lose themselves in this vibrant sound fusion. Previously forming part of R&B band  Sugarbad as their guitarist, the producer wanted to explore his abstract music production further, and the result is breathtaking.  We asked music producer Frank Cogliano a few questions about his artistry below.

‘Brainscape’ features on XPERIMENT_GROUND.fm

What are some of your earliest memories of music?

My parents always had music playing when I was growing up; the Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys, Nirvana.

Take us through your songwriting process. Are there any particular steps you take when putting music together?

Usually, I hear ideas and sing them into my iPhone. But also, particularly for Computers of the World, each track started with a sample and I built the track around that

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, which do you prefer?

Studio work, because I have complete control over the end product.

What is the most memorable response you have had to your music?

Whenever anybody responds positively to any of my music it is a good thing. It happens sometimes.

If you could put together a radio show, what kind of music would you play?

I post short videos with music I like every day on my Twitter, so probably along those lines.

Name five artists and their albums who would appear on your radio show

Uku Kuut – Vision of Estonia

Googoosh – Mano Tou

Antonio Carlos Jobim – Valse

Popol Vuh – Aguirre I

Teisutis Makacinas – I diena einam

What would you like to achieve with your music? What does success look like to you?

I would like to make good music. Success is making good music.

One last thought to leave your fans with?

Take a deep breath.
