Few people know the struggle of disliking your own creations better than artists. However, it can be an amazing feeling when the dislike begins to change and reform itself into love and favouritism. Ilja Alexander knows this better than most with his last release of ‘Someday’ via Green Monk Records.

“I wrote ‘Someday’ on a piano and it sounded like an indie sound. My good friends and co-producers, Curtis Richardson and Adien Lewis, then decided to take me out of my comfort zone, and on the morning of the studio recordings presented to me the electronic urban pop production of the song. I was totally unconnected to the sounds and so discomforted and vexed by the production that I just couldn’t sing on the production for the first two hours. Luckily, I soon came to like the production. In fact, I now think it is one of my most favoured recorded songs so far.”

Somewhat of an international artist, Ilja Alexander is originally from Amsterdam. However, he has recently formed a band in London and received significant attention from Japan and Indonesia.

Saint Mars offer ‘Help’ with their newly released song

Indie rock band Saint Mars have just released their latest song, ‘Help’ via Grá Mór Phonic Records. The track stars the impressive vocal range of Tryzdin, a 15-year old high schooler with millions of Youtube views behind his name.

Saint Mars speak of both Tryzdin and the track proudly when they say, “‘Help’ showcases Tryzdin’s mature and hard-hitting vocals, alongside with an infectious chorus and deceptively uplifting modern pop hooks. The song describes the antagonist nature of relationships based on attraction/repulsion, driven by passion, and prone to breakaways such as bullying and harassment.”

Their previous single, ‘Loveghost’ received a SongBro Award for Best Singing and amassed nearly a million views across streaming platforms. The track also proved to be popular on the radio, receiving radio play in over 20 different countries.

Danish alternative trio Nelson Can release new song ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’

Danish alternative trio Nelson Can are pleased to reveal they’re new single ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’. The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming 2020 album, following the recently-released lead single ‘Limelight’.

‘I Used to Sleep Through Everything’ is a shadowy, dreamy number that showcases a new side to frontwoman Selina Gin’s versatile vocals and acts as a counterpoint to ‘Limelight’s upbeat tempo—the mood is dark, the pace is calm. Bass player Signe SigneSigne explains of the evocative track: “This song describes the feeling of hours disappearing like sand between your fingers as you yearn for a more carefree time when you didn’t feel so overwhelmed by deadlines and worries.”

The new music comes alongside news of two Danish headline concerts in January 2020, taking the band to ever-greater heights as they play in the biggest venues of their career to date (see below for listings).

The two new singles shine a spotlight on new frontiers for the band, as frontwoman Selina Gin elucidates, “the ethos behind our music is constantly changing and developing, and we’ve deliberately incorporated a more electronic sound into our newer material, which is an approach that will also be apparent on our forthcoming album.”

Since their formation in 2011, Nelson Can have released four records. ‘Limelight’ and ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’ are the band’s latest releases since their previous body of work, EP3. Released in 2017, it was the first to gain the band tangible attention both domestically and abroad, with singles ‘Break Down Your Walls’, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Move Forward’ frequently played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6music and Denmark’s P6 and P3. The period marked a major breakthrough for the band, leading to a string of sold-out concerts in their native Denmark, culminating with a packed appearance at Roskilde Festival 2018, where over 6000 fans showed up for their set on the Avalon stage.

Over the last 8 years, Nelson Can have toured Europe extensively, regularly warming-up for internationally acclaimed bands such as Royal Blood and The Black Keys, and had music synced to productions from Lars von Trier’s Zentropa Film Company, as well as major international advertising campaigns.

They have been banned in China, remixed by Kasper Bjørke, and appeared on Good Morning Denmark. They’ve received praise from Rolling Stone Magazine in both the US, Spain and Germany, have been nominated for several awards including the Zulu Awards, the Carl Prize and have even been awarded the National Art Fund’s award for their latest poster, which was described as a small “masterpiece”.

The three-piece will be revealing further live dates and details of forthcoming material in the coming months.
