Future Soul Outfit Shookrah Share A New Music Video For Their Song ‘Notions’

Irish future-soul band Shookrah have shared a video for their new song ‘Notions.’ The track, premiered by Variance, is a sneak peak into the sound of the sound from the upcoming self-titled album Shookrah, expected via Broken Records on 25 October. Shookrah were named Best Act of 2017 and one of the 50 People to Watch in 2018 by The Irish Times.

The group shared the stage with Billy Ocean on his Irish tour and played Body & Soul Festival, Electric Picnic, Wigwam, Quarter Block Party, Other Voices Music Trail, and Knockanstockan Festival. Various publications have been singing Shookrah’s praises. Surviving The Golden Age said “80s synths and funky bass reminiscent of artists like Prince or more modernly, Daft Punk.” Just one example of the praises continually being sung about this five-piece.

Based in Cork, Munster, the band has gone from strength to strength Shookrah consist of Senita Appiakorang (lead vocals), Emmet O’Riabhaigh (drums), Daniel Coughlan (guitar), Diarmait Mac Carthaigh (keyboard) and Brian Dunlea (bass guitar). Each from a musical background, the band is a merging of each member’s distinct brilliance. Their unique style is a clash of neo-soul and new branches of R&B/Soul that they have defined as ‘Future Soul’. They mention influences like Hiatus, Kaiyote, Anderson .Paak and The Internet. A style reminiscent of Solange fused with Flying Lotus then merged with Thundercat.

The video perfectly compliments the track and was directed by the band’s own Emmet O’Riabhaigh (drums) who shared, “We wanted to shoot something really simple and still with nice moody lighting so we decided to go with two Senitas in what looks like a lovers’ tiff. We shot it over the course of a day in the Bodega bar in Cork, and had Senita’s sister Yesunia to stand in for some of the shots, with the whole band helping out on the set.” Watch their new video below.

Indie-Pop Duo tiny deaths Share ‘Us’ The Latest Remix From The EP Magic (The Remixes)

These are just two of the praises shared about the Los Angeles-based indie dream-pop duo tiny deaths. They share their new song ‘Us (Yabil Remix)’ from their Magic (The Remixes) EP, released on 4 October via Handwritten Records. The remix draws elements from various musical nominations, from blends of electronic arrangements to elegant vocals, resulting in a darker version of the original.

Aside from Billboard and Clash Magazine, the duo has been featured in The Guardian, The 405, Stereogum, Earmilk and PopMatters, to name a few. The duo’s styles differ considerably, Cutler from heavily experimental electronica and ambient music, de Lune from RnB, the result of these sounds, the Indie Pop band tiny deaths. Cutler’s bass and de Lune’s rich, soulful vocals fuse to create a sound reminiscent of 4AD projects, Grimes and Cocteau Twins.

Grant Cutler and Claire de Lune, better known as tiny death, have shared the stage with acts like Glass Animals, Matthew Dear, Sleigh Bells, Mr Little Jeans, How to Dress Well and will play three dates alongside Pale Honey later this month (see tour dates below). If Magic (The Remixes) is any indication of their future, their fanbase can only continue to grow.

Indie-pop Duo Bora York Shares ‘Smoke,’ The New Song From Their Upcoming Album Emotion Vertigo

American indie-pop duo Bora York have released their new single ‘Smoke’ via Anthem Falls Music on 4 October. The track features bassist Ian Allison (touring bassist for Eric Hutchinson, Jeremy Messersmith) and was mastered by Darren Vermaas (The National, Mumford and Sons, Vampire Weekend). This indie gem is from their album Emotion Vertigo, which we wait for eagerly. The album is due for release November 8th. Their previous single ‘Colorado’ was well received, and this track is o different. After ‘Colorado’ premiered on CLASH Magazine it reached #1 on Soundcloud’s New & hot: Indie playlist, and they have garnered so much support from the likes of Interview Magazine, Earmilk, PopMatters, Indie Shuffle and so many more, that we can’t wait to see ‘Smoke’ enjoying similar success.

Husband and wife duo, Chris and Rebekah Bartels, cite inspiration from Toro y Moi, J. Views, Tame Impala, Night Moves, Bon Iver, Novo Amor and Tourist. Bora York’s has been comared to the likes of Chelsea Cutler and Kygo.

‘Smoke’ is based on the idea of moving forward. Chris and Rebekah explain the track: “There’s nothing like the feeling of being free like a road trip, and that’s the setting with this song. “No more anthems, and no more embers, no more questions, till we live surrendered” – this encompasses the idea of leaving the past, or worries, or regrets, behind. The good, the bad, the doubts – leaving it all behind for something new, something fresh.

Singer/songwriter Starley releases a new song ‘Lovers + Strangers’

Marking a new era for the talented Australian singer, today Starley releases her vibrant new single ‘Lovers + Strangers’ on Central Station Records.
