Canadian singer William Prince announces brand new album ‘Reliever’

William Prince has announced his second album Reliever, due for release on February 7th via Glassnote Records.

Dave Cobb and Scott Nolan produced Reliever, a record that showcases Prince as a powerful vocalist and inspirational writer with musical influences ranging from his musician and preacher father to Kris Kristofferson and Charley Pride. It’s the second album for the Juno Award-winning songwriter and performer.

Prince had planned a career as a doctor before turning to music, and the album title expresses his dedication to providing relief and comfort to his listeners. “These songs were born in a time of great challenge,” he says. “Where these songs sound hopeless, let them be a testament to resilience. When they move slow, it is for better observation of the lesson at hand. Where they sound joyous and confident, picture the light breaking like the dawn, just after it was darkest.”

Reliever’s lead track is the inspirational ‘The Spark’, which promises “Don’t be afraid of the fire…I’d never let you burn.”

“The Spark details hope in finding someone who lights you up amidst the darkness you may feel. True love can burn so bright when it finds its spark,” says Prince. “A spark can save you amidst the cold and bring salvation from its warmth.”

Prince goes on to talk about the album’s message:

“Reliever is a series of pieces for healing. Alleviation. As the definition states, something that allows for relief from pain, discomfort or distress…Reliever takes aim at the moments where we as human beings feel we aren’t enough.” Prince says, “Pain doesn’t have to define us…Thankfully there are many things that can combat it” – and with Reliever, it indeed becomes one of those things.

Reliever fulfills the promises of William Prince’s earlier recordings and performances, which have earned him Juno Awards (for Contemporary Roots Album and Indigenous Music Album) and raves for his appearances at Stagecoach, and AmericanaFest. Prince’s trajectory from Peguis First Nation in Manitoba, Canada, to opening for Neil Young, has seen the relative newcomer find esteem and career-changing opportunity wherever he performs.

Prince was recently confirmed as opener for songwriter Yola’s upcoming UK tour (dates below).

Singer/songwriter Ed Tattersall releases new music video for ‘Delicate Mind’

An ever-evolving epic, the powerful ‘Delicate Mind’ uses emotive pianos, striking percussion, and a blazing guitar solo to launch the intense passion in Ed’s voice skyward. The song champions the importance of mental health, telling the tale of a struggling mind digging deep for something to ease the pain.

On the collaboration with CALM, Ed comments, “I feel really honored to be aligning my efforts with CALM for this ‘Delicate Mind’ single. Mental health has been something that myself and a lot of my friends have had to deal with. For me, music has been my antidepressant. I’m on a journey that is filled with constant failure and am constantly confronted with the negative effects of social media, especially when comparing my own success to other artists.

“There have been times on this journey when I would blame music for the burden of anxiety and at times depression. But it’s not. Music is my parachute, picking up an instrument and writing a song is my way of getting my overactive mind out on paper. ‘Delicate Mind’ means so much to me because we wrote it during one of the hardest times of my life, I just hope it helps other people as it helped me. That’s why working with CALM on this one is perfect, they’re an amazing Charity that is right on the front line of the world’s battle with mental health. And for that, they will always have my eternal gratitude and support.”

The new single comes with the elegant B-side ‘Write It On The Wall (Beautiful Life)’ and follows the previous releases ‘Never Believe’ and ‘Clint Eastwood’, the former being the first single from his upcoming debut album. Ed created them alongside hit songwriter/record producer Jamie Petrie (JP), who discovered his early tracks and approached him.

JP has also directed the ‘Clint Eastwood’ and ‘Never Believe’ videos, which were produced by Movies Darling.

‘Delicate Mind’ and ‘Write It On The Wall (Beautiful Life)’ are out now via Hertford Records/Believe Digital and showcase what a striking new talent multi-instrumentalist Ed Tattersall is, with a rasping, soulful voice and a truly atmospheric approach to melody.

He also has a number of special live performances lined up in December, as well as more new music on the horizon – stay tuned.

Indie-pop artist Andy Shauf unveils latest band Foxwarren, shares noir-inspired video for first single “Everything Apart”

Growing up in scattered small towns across the Canadian prairies, Foxwarren is comprised of singer songwriter Andy Shauf (guitars/keys/vocals) and his childhood friends Dallas Bryson (guitar/vocals) and brothers Darryl Kissick (bass) and Avery Kissick (drums & percussion) who eventually found themselves in Regina, Saskatchewan. The initial sessions for their self-titled debut – coming out November 30 via ANTI- Records – began ten years ago in the Kissicks’ parents’ farmhouse while they were away on vacation. Upon their return, Foxwarren was forced to relocate and recording resumed back in Regina in a rented house where the members lived as roommates. The band’s name comes from the Kissick brothers’ family home in Foxwarren, Manitoba.

Today the four-piece has released its first song “Everything Apart”; the driving krautrock, drum machine backbone of the song evokes a ticking clock – a race against time. “Combined with Andy’s existential lyrics, the song’s propulsive feel reminded us of the noir-ish tension of classic spy thrillers like ‘The Conversation’, ‘Three Days of The Condor’, and ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’,” explained the video’s directors, the Ft. Langley Production Company. “With the band’s blessing, we set to work on creating our own micro cold-war thriller, paying homage to era tropes like zoom-heavy camerawork, trench coats, and analogue tech.”
