AUST shares buzzing new single ‘The Hive’

Hailing  from Neuchâtel, Switzerland,  AUST’s two track EP The Hive was recently released via Enhanced Music’s Enhanced Chill. With a string of previous releases under his belt, his work has previously been compared to artists such as Fakear, Petit Biscuit and Møme.

AUST’s sound is characterised by intricate loops, electronic embellishments and textured soundscapes. The Hive is somewhat of an ode to his home, a place of refuse that obviously inspires him greatly.

He explains: ‘The Hive’ refers to the new place me and my wife live in. It’s a tiny house surrounded by wild nature where I recorded some sounds that are featured on both songs. I’ve also just built a second studio there to focus on new inspirations. The place was full of bees during the summer (which is unfortunately uncommon those days) and the chorus on The Hive took me back to those sounds.”

October 30, 2019 Rock band October Drift releases new music video from the song ‘Forever Whatever’

Rock band October Drift releases new music video from the song ‘Forever Whatever’

October Drift has shared the video for their new single, ‘Forever Whatever,’ the title track and latest single to be taken from their upcoming debut album, out on January 24th via Physical Education Records.

A powerful demonstration of the band’s formidable live presence, the video sees the band perform the track in a seamless one-take shot amid the atmospheric setting of an empty warehouse, with thrashing theatrics emphasizing its emotionally charged sentiment.

“Filming music videos usually fills us with dread, and seeing as we filmed this one on the only day off during a three-week tour we were a little pessimistic,” explain the band. “So when the videographers suggested doing a one-shot performance video we were all pleased. We basically just played the song as we would live, once in front of the camera and that was that. No point in doing it over and over again and killing the vibe. We find this kind of thing works better if you don’t overthink it.”

A juxtaposition of calm and chaos, the track combines the brooding emotion of Joy Division and New Order with the volatility of The Bends-era Radiohead. Swelling and anthemic, the track opens to an engulfing explosion of distorted guitars, before hushed verses highlight the track’s elegiac yet hopeful lyricism. Frontman Kiran Roy’s potent vocals are set against resonant instrumentals, before launching into a chorus charged with immersive intensity.

‘Forever Whatever’ follows their previous singles ‘Losing My Touch’ – released earlier this year – and ‘All Broken Down’ and ‘Come And Find Me’, released to widespread acclaim last year. With influences as varied as The National, Radiohead, Interpol and Nick Drake, their heavy, pop-inflected rock is delivering a rejuvenating injection of fresh blood to the genre.

October Drift’s debut album, Forever Whatever, is a cathartic collection of tracks encompassing themes of loneliness, fear and ultimate positivity, and builds on the solid foundation that they have built over years of touring and writing to cement themselves as an important and powerful new presence.

One of the most electrifying, charismatic and formidable live acts of the past two years – with appearances at festivals including Glastonbury’s John Peel stage, Reading & Leeds and The Great Escape, as well as a major European tour with Editors in 2018 and a slot at Liverpool’s Sound City – the band look certain to ascend to even greater heights in 2020.

Danish alternative trio Nelson Can release new song ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’

Danish alternative trio Nelson Can are pleased to reveal they’re new single ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’. The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming 2020 album, following the recently-released lead single ‘Limelight’.

‘I Used to Sleep Through Everything’ is a shadowy, dreamy number that showcases a new side to frontwoman Selina Gin’s versatile vocals and acts as a counterpoint to ‘Limelight’s upbeat tempo—the mood is dark, the pace is calm. Bass player Signe SigneSigne explains of the evocative track: “This song describes the feeling of hours disappearing like sand between your fingers as you yearn for a more carefree time when you didn’t feel so overwhelmed by deadlines and worries.”

The new music comes alongside news of two Danish headline concerts in January 2020, taking the band to ever-greater heights as they play in the biggest venues of their career to date (see below for listings).

The two new singles shine a spotlight on new frontiers for the band, as frontwoman Selina Gin elucidates, “the ethos behind our music is constantly changing and developing, and we’ve deliberately incorporated a more electronic sound into our newer material, which is an approach that will also be apparent on our forthcoming album.”

Since their formation in 2011, Nelson Can have released four records. ‘Limelight’ and ‘I Used To Sleep Through Everything’ are the band’s latest releases since their previous body of work, EP3. Released in 2017, it was the first to gain the band tangible attention both domestically and abroad, with singles ‘Break Down Your Walls’, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Move Forward’ frequently played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6music and Denmark’s P6 and P3. The period marked a major breakthrough for the band, leading to a string of sold-out concerts in their native Denmark, culminating with a packed appearance at Roskilde Festival 2018, where over 6000 fans showed up for their set on the Avalon stage.

Over the last 8 years, Nelson Can have toured Europe extensively, regularly warming-up for internationally acclaimed bands such as Royal Blood and The Black Keys, and had music synced to productions from Lars von Trier’s Zentropa Film Company, as well as major international advertising campaigns.

They have been banned in China, remixed by Kasper Bjørke, and appeared on Good Morning Denmark. They’ve received praise from Rolling Stone Magazine in both the US, Spain and Germany, have been nominated for several awards including the Zulu Awards, the Carl Prize and have even been awarded the National Art Fund’s award for their latest poster, which was described as a small “masterpiece”.

The three-piece will be revealing further live dates and details of forthcoming material in the coming months.
