April 16, 2024 Emerging multicultural marvel Daada shares a new single, ‘Moonlight’

Emerging multicultural marvel Daada shares a new single, ‘Moonlight’

Daada, aka Maike Valentina Kusserow, dropped her single ‘Moonlight’ on April 12th via Daada Music. She’s gained viral fame on TikTok and Instagram in Kenya with over 500K views on two videos of her singing. Her music has been featured on Spotify and Boomplay playlists, and she’s been interviewed on various radio stations across Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Daada has also received nominations and attention from Amazon Music Germany and media outlets like The Citizen and RBB Kultur. In June 2024, she’ll release her second EP, blending genres from around the world, sure to please fans of multicultural artists like Mayra Andrade and Ibeyi.

‘Moonlight’ is an enchanting listen with a captivating melody and irresistible rhythm. The synergy between Daada’s exquisite vocals and the pulsing Afro-Colombian beat weaves a spellbinding dance, drawing in listeners in with breathtaking ease.

Daada revealed: ‘Moonlight’ is the result of a great deal of inner turmoil rushing out of me and into a song in an hour or two last September. It is an explosion of emotions. The best thing about it is that it’s also an explosion of the different places I am from and a journey through them. It’s trilingual. On one hand it was made by two Colombians (myself and Claudio), so you will feel Reggaeton and even Cumbia vibes. At the same time you will hear an African vibe rhythmically. And of course, it was made in an apartment on Sonnenallee, one of the busiest, loudest streets of Berlin. So there’s some Berlin in it too.”

April 11, 2024 Burr Island unveil a haunting new single, ‘Later’

Burr Island unveil a haunting new single, ‘Later’

London-based folk duo Burr Island released their latest single, ‘Later’, on March 29th, 2024 via Left Foot Records, following their fifth single ‘Our Home’. Comprising best friends Tom England & Oskar Porter, the duo has garnered praise from industry heavyweights like Robert Plant and Noel Gallagher. Their first four releases amassed 250,000 streams across platforms, with their debut album slated for 2024. Recorded at Kundalini Studios in Devon with Steve Cradock, their singles gained traction on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing, and Radio X. They’ve toured as support for acts like Ocean Colour Scene, playing iconic venues such as Hammersmith Eventim Apollo & Barrowlands Ballroom and a sold-out show at Union Chapel supporting Paul Weller, along with two sell-out London headline gigs. Drawing inspiration from artists like Lennon/McCartney, Paul Simon, Crosby Stills & Nash, Nick Drake, The Beach Boys, and Cat Stevens, Burr Island has been likened to indie folk contemporaries like Fleet Foxes, Flyte, and Kings of Convenience.

‘Later’ is a tender composition overflowing with vivid imagery. Sung in ethereal harmony by the duo, its lyrics delicately delve into the poignant clarity that life’s end brings, contemplating the essence of our existence in this fleeting time. The gentle strumming of the guitar gracefully meanders through the song like a tranquil brook, while Jess Cox‘s strings—sweet, intricate, and emotive—immerse the tender track in profound emotion.

Burr Island shared: “‘Later, you will understand how truly good these times have been’ is faintly scrawled at the bottom corner of a large abstract piece of art hanging up in the building that Oskar used to live in. So faint, you could easily miss it. We’re glad Oskar didn’t, as those words unravelled into the song you hear today. ’Later’ is about being in the last moments of one’s life, when ‘twilight is paper thin’, and to look back at a life unlived.”

Oskar elaborated: “Around the same time I stumbled upon the hidden lyrics in the artwork, a friend of mine told me a personal story which I was incredibly struck by and that inspired us to write the rest of the song. When he was just eleven, his father had come home early from work, complaining of having chest pains. Hours later he had tragically died of a heart attack. What did he do in the last moments of his life? He started to confess. He confessed he had acted harshly and been cruel to people. I’ve often heard when one is at the end of their life, they can experience moments of true clarity, as if they are truly seeing for the first time. Hopefully this little song can be a reminder to us all to not wait until the moment of death to realise ‘how truly good these times have been’.”

Listen to Karmacoda’s ode to the risk and rapture of new love, ‘Unfolded (Put A Little Love)’

San Fransiscan trio KARMACODA have unveiled a new single, ‘Unfolded (Put a Little Love)’ on March 22nd, 2024 via Sola Musa Music. The track, receiving early support from NOTION Magazine, follows the recent release of their stirring single ‘Try At Me’ in January 2024. KARMACODA is composed of Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett aka B. (vocals and producer), and Japanese-American multi-instrumentalist Eric Matsuno (bass and unique elements). They have received support from respected online publications such as EARMILK, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, and many more. Their music has received airplay on NPR Music and Irish National radio RTÉ 2XM’s Dan Hegarty. With an extensive discography, placements in several film and TV scores, and numerous awards, the trio has explored electronica, chill, trip-hop, R&B, rock, and dream pop in their two-decade career. KARMACODA continues to transcend genre boundaries, blending soulful R&B and jazz lounge music to create a unique sound reminiscent of Adele, Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis.

‘Unfolded (Put a Little Love)’ is an emotional tribute to the overwhelming sensation of falling in love. Its tender sound, featuring soulful keys, subtle jazz percussion, and romantic synth strings, transports listeners into a realm of affection. Jessica’s vocals soar passionately over this instrumentation, conveying the joy and intensity of new love.

Jessica revealed: It’s that feel good song with admittance of loving someone and letting them know how you feel. You can’t keep it a secret anymore. You gotta tell them, hoping they will feel the same. Mad crush vibes with a tinge of nervousness, when you finally let the cat out of the bag. Like “are you feeling what I’m feeling?” If so, let’s take this friendship to the next level, and I’m feeling excited so… put a little love in your heart and match me.”
