Bridging the gap between alt-rock and indie pop, Greater Manchester’s Cultures have been plying their trade across the region for the last four years, and their intelligent and idiosyncratic brand of indie has been turning heads and picking up traction ever since.

With an equal focus on both head and heart within their lyricism, the band have succeeded in elevating themselves head and shoulders above their contemporaries, something that has afforded the band high profile support slots across some of Manchester’s most iconic venues, including Germany’s Giant Rooks at Night & Day Café, and Marsicans at The Deaf Institute – a venue the band have since gone on to headline in front of a rapturous audience, cementing themselves as one of Manchester’s most promising new bands.

The band’s latest single ‘Ghost’ succeeds in merging both the band’s aesthetics; a combination of brooding indie rock buoyed by rousing synth-pop. “For us in the band, the song has come to represent a huge number of different feelings and concepts as it’s developed” explains frontman Josh Spivey. “The lyrics “you never needed someone to take you home” refer to coming to realise that you are more capable of being independent than you knew and in “she never saw you as skin and bones” I try to tackle the idea of how people’s perceptions of each other can be completely different from our own ideas of ourselves. I think we have a habit of assuming that people think the worst of us when people are actually really good when given the chance.”

And in that, Spivey seems to get right to the heart of not just the track, but the band themselves – always looking for the silver lining, ever aware of the clouds it outlines.

Indie pop band GoodVibes Sound unveils flirty disco-esque song release

Stay For One More Night is a disco-inspired psych pop track, which straddles the line between low-slung chiller and energetic city slicker. Written and produced by Goodvibes Sound, the track features glistening vocal harmonies, a punchy bassline and Bossanova-inspired backing vocals. Think power walks in power suits and night time drives through city lights.

Alex from Goodvibes Sound said:

“Stay For One More Night deals with the feelings of isolation that often arise when you’re living in the city. Sometimes you find yourself being convinced to go and do stuff, just to stave off those feelings of loneliness, when you’d rather just rest and chill at home.”

“Producing the track during a lockdown was interesting. There were a lot of voice notes back and forth and some long, long Whatsapp calls. It was just nice to make something together during this weird time.”

Stay For One More Night comes hot on the heels of two singles released in 2020 – Sane Or Sinner and Beachside Living. Goodvibes Sound have a string of singles and videos lined up for early 2021, before releasing an album later in the year.

With the state of the world, this band has persevered, member Eric Matsuno was in awe of Jessica’s stripped-down version of the track:  “I listened to Jessica’s raw take on ‘Make Me The One’ and I shed a tear, feeling a kind of truth that can’t be better described.”

The rapidly ascendant, LA-via-Hampshire, British Cambodian pop star Liza Owen shares an epic new single titled JOSIE” via Epic Records.

Following singles, Why Aren’t We Having Sex?”, “Getting Goodand “Starry Eyed”, “JOSIE” is yet another formidable addition to her musical arsenal – a soaring and anthemic ballad, albeit one underscored by dark lyrics about a friendship gone sour. Once again, Liza flexes her distinctively genre-bending style and taste, with her powerful vocals and wildly infectious take on modern pop further cementing her as one to watch this year.

Liza further explains, “JOSIE was born out of a conversation in the car on the way to the studio. I was recounting a story about some recent drama in my relationship regarding an ex of my partners. I was telling my friends & co writers Ali Tamposi & Paul Phamous that ‘Josie ‘ was back in town… the rest is history”

“JOSIE” also comes accompanied by a gorgeously widescreen video directed by Aisha Schliessler and shot, appropriately, in one seamless take at the Sunset Hollywood Villa – a staple Bond movie location. At once sweet, strange and oh so slightly sinister – that is Liza Owen to a tee.
