Indie band Homecamp releases emotional song ‘Thoughts Of You’

Homecamp is the side project of UK musician Adam Binder, frontman of indie/emo band Dearist (Spartan Records), and his friend, bassist Will Jones. The duo’s debut mini-album “Did We Return As Something Else” was mastered by Bob Cooper (Cult Dreams, Citizen, Self Defense Family) and will be released on November 13th via Wiretap Records.

The first single “Thoughts Of You” hit digital streaming sites on Wednesday, Sept 16th.

Of the new single, Adam says, “This was the last song written and recorded for the mini-album. I was listening back to what I already had for the release and I felt like it needed another song that leaned towards the rockier side of our sound. Something with drums. The songs on the mini-album stretch from floaty ambient arrangements to more mainstream indie rock jams and ‘Thoughts Of You’ definitely sits in the latter camp. As with most of the songs, this one started on the piano. I am by no means a pianist but I use the trial and error method of hitting random chord shapes in random rhythms until something sparks a feeling, and then I’m away.”

He adds, “As for the lyrics, they are a subject that I’ve never touched on before. The lyrics are a kind of message from future generations to the people of today, pleading with us to look after the planet better. I’ll be completely honest, this is not a subject I’ve really given much thought to until recently. A lot of my friends are vegetarian or vegan, in an effort to cut down on the amount of emissions they are responsible for. It’s a really easy way we can make a difference. My partner is vegetarian, so 90% of the time I live the same lifestyle, out of convenience anyway. But I’m starting to look at what I can do to leave this place in better shape. I think like most people I’ve been living in the dark and didn’t fully understand the weight of the problem, but all we need to do is educate each other. So that’s what I’m trying to do, in the way I know how. I’m trying really hard not to be preachy because it’s not something I really don’t like, but if I can spark a new thought with just one person, that’ll be a job done.”

Interview with singer/songwriter KaiL Baxley

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter KaiL Baxley shares the video to his latest single, ‘Beneath The Bones’. The video premiered on Atwood Magazine. ‘Beneath The Bones’ is the second track off of his upcoming third LP, out early 2020.

The self-produced album was recorded at the late Elliot Smith’s New Monkey Studios and United Studios in Los Angeles, California. Check out our exclusive interview with KaiL Baxley.

Describe your sound for us. What do you want people to feel when they hear your music?

Hopefully authenticity and truth

Which 3 artists have influenced you the most growing up?

Otis Redding, The Rza, John Frusciante

How did you discover your particular sound?

I was busking for beer money and suddenly realized I could sing.

What are the most important pieces of equipment to you?

Just a guitar and a notebook really. Maybe a simple tape recorder to start.

What outside of music inspires you to create?

So many things. Mainly the simple ones, little interactions between people, the way light contorts through a pane of glass, a beautiful woman, the perfect avocado. Things like that.

If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist living or passed, who would it be?

James Brown hands down

Most artists say that if they weren’t artists they would be mailmen/women… what would you be?

A neurosurgeon

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

Well there’s a brand new album out  early 2020 I’m excited about and we’re building a lot of stuff around it

December 11, 2019 Bristol music producer obylx makes the world a little brighter with his latest song

Bristol music producer obylx makes the world a little brighter with his latest song

Sometimes you hit perfection on the second try. For obylx with his upcoming release of the album, Twice via Guise Records, this is the case. Twice is set for release on Friday 13 December, just in time to make your holiday playlist. Ahead of the album, ‘With You’ has been premiered via BBC Radio 6’s Lauren Laverne’s show.

The Bristol-based producer appears to dabble in a variety of different genres with his previously released ‘Flicker’ entering into the neoclassical future bass territory. This unique style caught the attention of Bass Music who opted for an exclusive interview. In it, obylx reveals how his musical journey began with the Beatles, Stevie Wonder & Bowie before moving on to the production styles of Chemical Brothers, Prodigy and Gorillaz. You can read the full interview here.

“I’ve learnt is how to express myself through writing. When I used to feel sad or worried about something, I would let it consume me. Like everyone else, I still get all of that of course but I feel I can write about it. It’s like I can turn it into a physical thing, which I can go back to and understand how I was feeling at that point. It doesn’t solve any of the problems but it does help me deal with it… it’s like a form of therapy. It’s taught me to embrace any emotions and celebrate it as part of being human.”
