Indie-dance duo Phantoms share new single ‘Letting Me Go’ from forthcoming album “This Can’t Be Everything”.  Speaking of the new single, Phantoms say: “Letting Me Go” is the first song on our album coming in August. It was another one we wrote pretty early on in the album process and tried to incorporate a lot of the sounds we felt characterized the record. It’s still dance driven with synthesizers and punchy drums, but we also wanted it to feel euphoric and melancholy, like you could float away while listening to it.

Phantoms have come into their own and taken a new approach to their music following monumental personal and professional life changes and through those experiences have created some of their most dynamic and transcendent music to date. The two were officially signed to Foreign Family Collective earlier this year, (founded by electronic giant ODESZA in 2015) and since have had the freedom to explore new and exciting creative avenues with their music.

With previous support from NPR, Billboard, Stereogum, Earmilk + more and over 125 million streams across platforms, the duo has solidified themselves as one of the most promising acts entering 2022, with lots more on the horizon. Their recent string of singles including, ‘Lay It All on Me’ featuring UK based singer-songwriter Jem Cooke and ‘Firepit’ with electronic producer/composer, Big Wild, have received incredible support from playlisting across the globe as well as continued radio support worldwide including heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM, SiriusXM (Diplo’s Revolution & BPM) + KCRW, triple j and more.

June 24, 2022 Psycho & Plastic hit the mark with new song ‘Fragile Targets’

Psycho & Plastic hit the mark with new song ‘Fragile Targets’

Psycho & Plastic have released their latest song ‘Fragile Targets’, a neo-classical composition with a distinctively ambient edge. The duo have carefully glued brittle audio fragments on top of a steady bottom of ringing keys.

Stream/ Download: ‘Fragile Targets’

Mots of dust cast adrift in a singular beam cast over an old piano. The pianist rocks steadily as their feet control the mutes of the keys. Lost in their fingers, they express a yearning through an 8-note scale. The listener is held like a breath underwater, gazing up through ripples of distortion. The high notes leap across lily pads, the surface tension breaking away beneath them.

The track feels as if it’s on the brink of surrender. Saddened, yet resolute, it brushes up against a deep sense of loss and vulnerability. We are led on a journey of mourning that we know is fated to be. Resigned to the inner turmoil, we let go only to find ourselves caught adrift in a sea of sound.

Alternative artist Sage Castleberry releases debut song

Michigan-born and bred Sage Castleberry is a pop artist whose music brings together old and new. Born into a family of musicians, he was exposed to a variety of genres, ranging from 80s hair bands to country music and everything in between. Picking up the guitar at just 10 years old, Castleberry has spent years mastering his art, eventually becoming the lead guitarist in a band alongside his good childhood friend, Sam Luna, Dave Luna, long-time family friend Chris Gillette and Castleberry’s own father, Tim Castleberry. Taking the leap to go solo, the songwriter has been working on his own music, discovering his unique sound and perfecting his artistry.

His debut single “I Kinda Like It” narrates the story of a guy who likes the feeling when a girl shows interest in him, but only at certain times. Touching on the desire to have someone to alleviate the symptoms of loneliness, he sings, “I kinda like it when I need you, to go and pick up on your phone, cause I don’t want to be alone.”

With a throbbing beat, jangly guitars and echoing synths the track shines bright. Doused in a groovy, move-inducing rhythm, Castleberry’s infectious vocals will have you singing along all day. “I Kinda Like It” showcases an infectious pop sound fueled by Castleberry’s influences over the years. From the likes of Queen, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and The Band Camino, the Michigan artist displays a multitude of sounds, as he soaks up the music from his childhood, fusing them with modern, fresh and dance-worthy elements.

May 24, 2022 ‘gaze’ into the latest experimental release from sweeep and Sace

‘gaze’ into the latest experimental release from sweeep and Sace

This past weekend was an interesting one for many reasons but none more so than the collaboration between sweeep and Sace on their latest single, ‘gaze’ via the renowned Secret Souls imprint. The single follows the release of their previous project, burn down my mind which also featured Sace’s side project, Silent Boy. If you’re getting a bit lost, bear with us as we still have few more interesting contenders to enter the ring. Both singles will appear on an upcoming collaborative project spearheaded by lo-fi royalty eevee. Her Secret Souls imprint was created to become the “go to place” to search for mellow and relaxing music.

Stream/ download: ‘gaze’

sweeep and Sace’s ‘gaze’ draws us back to the present day as her ethereal vocals meet the mellow basslines. The single is unhurried, luxuriating in its own synths and finding purchase in the mystical. We wouldn’t be surprised if it found itself on a dark wave playlist or two, flirting with a witch-house track next door.

The two producers tell us about their creation: “Both of us have been known producers in the same underground scene for a few years and its not many people from Stockholm who are into that type of music, so it felt natural that we should work on something together. Now we are both evolving our sounds by adding our vocals on the beats, which could move our music into a new context that is yet to be discovered.”
