Doja Cat songwriter iLana Armida embarks on solo career

Los Angeles-based pop icon, iLana Armida, gives a refreshing new rendition of a love story as old as time on her upcoming hit single, “Summertime Love.” Having written music for several popular artists, including Doja Cat, Etana, and Common Kings, and performing alongside Lil’ Dicky and John K, iLana Armida definitely has the experience and know-how to create the next big pop track, which she undoubtedly will do with her upcoming single of many to come.

Opening with a slow build that grows into a smooth, wavy sound that really sets the tone for the rest of this summer vibed song. Electronic R&B singer Anjelo Disons shares new song ‘Lullaby’ / ‘Destiny’

South London singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Anjelo Disons has unveiled new double-single ‘Lullaby’ / ‘Destiny’, out now.

First up is the fresh, feelgood vibes of ‘Lullaby’, a heartfelt duet that sees Anjelo and 20-year-old East London singer-songwriter Rasida trade pitch-perfect vocals. Next up, ‘Destiny’ is a more downbeat, laidback affair, with Anjelo losing himself in the spiritual jazz sound associated with his band The Oracle. It follows last month’s double-single release of ‘Time’ and ‘Brighter Day’, with all four tracks acting as a diverse precursor to his forthcoming EP ‘The Garden’, out in June.

Lullaby is a song that formed in a session with Oracle members Lorenz & Rasida” Anjelo explains. “I remember programming the drum pattern before Lorenz laid down the phenomenal synths. We loved it, me and Rasida wrote our first verses and chorus within the first session! Rasida is phenomenal to work with because of how musically talented she is, her ears are so good. A member of the Oracle band as a backing vocalist, and one of my closest friends for years, I’m excited to be releasing music with Rasida. Conceptually the song is about your partner bringing you peace to sleep at night in a wholesome, comforting way. The playfulness of the beat and the childlike sounding synths is what gave us the inspiration to write.”

Discussing ‘Destiny’, Anjelo divulges: “I wrote the foundation to Destiny originally in a session with Brando Walker & Nathan at Piano Bar Soho. I sat on the song for a long time, I really wanted the song to have a cinematic feel and the writing to truly take off when something “aligns” in the right way for you and it feels destined. Compositionally, ‘Destiny’ is one of my personal favourite songs I’ve written. After writing the song over the course of a couple of months, I brought it to The Oracle Band to record at Dexter Hercules’ studio, where most of the songs for the project were recorded. The songs has Lorenz on keys, Dan on guitar & bass & Wilf on the drums.”

A budding, 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist who was mentored by scene aficionado Julian Joseph, Anjelo attended the coveted BRIT School and plays in the band The Oracle, which includes musicians who work with Tom Misch, Dave, Kali Claire and Blue Lab Beats. He has also engineered and produced for a long list of artists that includes Hak Baker, Rak Su, Yizzy, Morgan Monroe and Bshp.

One of the UK jazz scene’s brightest talents, ‘Lullaby’ / ‘Destiny’ is another expertly crafted double-single from Anjelo Disons.

Avant-pop music producer Chong the Nomad shared R&B tinged song

Avant-pop multi-instrumentalist Chong the Nomad (Alda Agustiano) teams up with West Coast singer-songwriter Laureli for a blissful, spaced out RnB excursion on ‘No Pulp’, lifted from the new ‘Kitsuné America: West Coast Edition’ compilation featuring exclusive tracks from hotly tipped artists in and around California.

Alda says: “Laureli and I have always wanted to collaborate, and when she sent the demo vocals for “No Pulp” I immediately latched on to it. She has a spectacular way of writing pop grooves that are both infectious and engaging. Writing alongside her and Rogét Chahayed was a much needed challenge in my career, it made me really dive deep as a producer and arranger. Originally I had a more heavy and complex instrumental, but I decided in the end to focus more on balancing Laureli’s voice with a sweet pop r&b groove, while still adding my own twist to the style.”

Hailing from Los Angeles, LOMELI and his track ‘Life And Echo’ is kicking off the journey, as Carter Reeves joins the party with his road-trip must-have ‘These Days’, released earlier on the label. As Kitsuné Musique always brings up old friends for the trip, the indie poppers Pink Skies also appears on the compilation. As we dive deeper into the musical adventure, there are some new faces to meet up down the road such as Los Angeles darling Haiva Ru, and celestial wanderer SAVI MINDS.

The compilation will unveil six to seven hidden gems from the hottest West Coast based artists of the moment. First stop is Kowloon mysterious universe, brought up by his soothing yet complex delivery on ‘Hurt’. Next up, is an exciting debut journey to ‘Mars’ courtesy of Luc De La Croixx, before an unexpected turn into Dot’s cutting edge beats on ‘User’.

As the exploration continues there are also great collaborations to be found: the multi-faceted crew Real Bad Man team up with Genevieve Artadi on their debut collaborative single ‘Kill The Lie’ – Delia Dane previously featured on last year Kitsuné America’s issue is back again with a soulful delight with ALETNA, and the anti-pop bop of rising Asian American producer / songwriter Chong the Nomad together with the oceanic and lush vocals of Laureli.

Released on heavy duty vinyl coupled with exclusive artwork, ‘Kitsuné America: West Coast Edition’ is out 14th May through Kitsuné Musique.

Pop meets R&B with vocalist Kate Clark’s song ‘Something’

Kate Clark is a UK singer and songwriter and classical training from a young age fuelled Kate’s love for music. In the late 90s Kate was a member of a girlband for a short time, before going it alone to write and record her own solo material. Kate’s latest track ‘Something’ was recorded in one take at her home studio, the song is about accepting your own insecurities and loving yourself, no matter what anyone else may think – a positive message, that Kate hopes that many people may identify with and the song does already seem to be capturing the imagination of people. Kate has been writing songs for some time although she does not yet have label representation. The instrumental parts of this track are produced by Matthew May and it is with thanks to Matthew that Kate was inspired to write her song. ‘Something’ is now available on Spotify, Apple Music and Itunes alongside some of Kate’s other material.
