Since bursting onto the scene with blistering singles “Nothing” and “Losing Sleep,” electrifying alt-pop three-piece Polary continue to impress with their latest release “Nothing In Common”. Based in Cheltenham, this vivacious young band are masters of the alt-pop genre, seamlessly blending the sound of heavy guitars and nostalgic synths against rousing pop vocals and effortlessly wrapping it all together in stellar production value. This new release is the perfect showcase for their sound that can be heard in full effect in lockdown-inspired hit “Nothing In Common”.
Speaking about the single frontman Harry explains “I was consciously writing something really different lyrically this time. It’s been a mixture of finding the right sound to embody this, and also putting to bed anything I wanted to say in the previous singles. “Nothing In Common” is about young romance and the reckless attitude that goes with it. You think everything at that point in your life is so big, and recalling that feeling felt right for this single.”
Having already landed a coveted slot on the Neu Stage at 2000 Trees Festival, racked up performances alongside The Faim, Circa Waves, The Beaches and YONAKA , whilst also getting nods from Rock Sound and Upset magazine, this young trio have proven themselves quick off the mark when it comes to industry recognition and if “Nothing In Common” is anything to go by, this is sure to continue!

Los Angeles-based art-pop artist Kit Major shares “When the Drugs Don’t Work”, a more introspective stab at her signature dark, electropop sound, building on her single “Mind” from October. Under The Radarpremiered the track a few days earlier, praising how the track “leans into a dark, electro pop feel. The chilly and introspective opening blooms into a driving dance beat and thumping synths, married to a percussive, hyperpop-influenced outro. Contrasting with the darker sound though, comes a tender and warm lyrical perspective.”
Taking inspiration from Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, and Charlotte Lawrence, “When the Drugs Don’t Work” dives into the overwhelming vulnerability and panic of failing to curb a depressive episode with medication. With this release, Kit Major furthers her efforts to be open and make light of her mental health struggles.
Speaking about “When the Drugs Don’t Work,” Kit Major says: “It was cathartic to write, so visually I wanted it to be something light, fun and freeing. Life isn’t supposed to be this hard and sad, there should be joy and freedom too. Don’t take things too seriously or literally. I write about my depression to be able to dance about my depression.I first wrote this song because I had a major depressive episode in April from everything… COVID, the state of our world, the state of our nation, the fact I also deal with anxiety and depression… everything. I was taking my meds and it still made me feel as if I wasn’t on them, so I wrote down “what happens when your drugs don’t work?” I try, and am still learning, to be as open as possible about my mental state.“

Opening with a light-hearted melody, the track floods with captivating vocals before cascading into a disco-reminiscent soundscape. Designed with the dancefloor in mind, ‘Dance’ lures the listener to find release and nostalgia throughout the three-and-a-half minutes of the track. AIR APPARENT effortlessly fuses elements of bubbly pop music with a groovy bassline, offering a refreshingly unique sonic expression.
“*My friend Lulu and I wrote this song together about the experience of meeting someone in a club, having no idea who they are, and not knowing what to say – but hoping to dance the nervousness away. It came from specific experiences we had both had but chosen never to act on. So in a way, it’s a projection of what we’ve both wanted to do having been in that situation. On a more abstract level, it’s a song about dancing your fears away. Dancing alone or with my girlfriend alone in my room has been a therapeutic escape during quarantine.I want people to know that sometimes it’s easy to get caught in your own head with anxiety and nervousness. But it’s possible to break out of it and physically pry yourself out of your own head by trying something fun, like starting to dance! “- AIR APPARENT
