Electronic music producer TSHA announces upcoming album

Hotly tipped by everyone from Annie Mac, Bonobo and Gorillaz to Billboard, NME, Crack, Mixmag and DJ Mag, TSHA is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting talents coming out of the UK. Forthcoming EP “OnlyL” due for release on 27th August showcases a confident creative who is constantly developing and refining her own distinct feel and sound.

The release arrives off the back of a stellar run for the young artist including the launch of her new bi-monthly ‘Jackfruit Radio’ show on Apple Music—which debuted with a guest spot from femme culture founder Elkka—releasing her first BBC Essential Mix and a Minimix for Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show, and being named BBC Radio 1’s “Future Artist” for January 2021 and “Star of 2020” by BBC Introducing. Her most recent EP, 2020’s “Flowers”, made multiple End-Of-Year listings, and was met with widespread praise from the likes of Billboard, NME—who described the EP as “emotion-filled electronic anthems from a star in the making”—NPR, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, NYLON, DJ Mag, Dancing Astronaut and many more. She has also been tipped for greatness by essentially the whole of BBC Radio 1 specialist DJ crew including Annie Mac, Jack Saunders, Jaguar, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Ricky, Melvin & Charlie and Flava D.

On EP title track and lead single ‘OnlyL’, TSHA’s innate gift for producing genre-defying, classy electronic pop is at the fore. An instant earworm, it features vocals from NIMMO aka Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett, with TSHA juxtaposing the dark lyrics against the track’s upbeat instrumental.

‘Power’ plays to another of TSHA’s loves: club music. With her DJ career flourishing, the global pandemic shut down the nighttime industries and all access to dancefloors and the shared experience and exhilaration of clubbing. ‘Power’ encapsulates all of that pent up energy and love and is aimed squarely at the dancefloor–an absolutely storming four-to-the-floor groove.

‘I Know’ shows off yet another facet of TSHA’s extraordinary production chops. A perfect marriage of live musicianship and electronics, it’s a beautifully textured and melancholy work built around a gorgeous hang drum motif.

Gearing up for a busy summer schedule at UK festivals including Access, Bigfoot, Standon Calling, Gala, Boardmasters, Lost Village, ION, Hideout, Inner State and Detonate, TSHA will also be appearing at Field Day in August 2021, sharing the bill with the likes of Bicep, Floating Points, Jayda G and Mount Kimbie.

Feel nostalgia for younger days with indie rock band Giant Sky’s new album

Nostalgic for days spent in high school blasting anthemic emo music through your headphones as you walk down the hallway to your next class? Giant Sky’s latest album Not Today via Bloody Sunset Records is an instant nostalgia train, reminding the listener of their days spent being a carefree adolescent.

Listening to this entire album one will be two tissues away from destroying a packed box for sure. This album covers feelings of isolation, acceptance and finding a home to call your own. A lot of heart is poured into this work and its energetic production is evident in each track and essentially is what a memorable indie-rock hit consists of. Electronic jazz musician SENU share ‘Jetlag’ song

Today, Friday 21st May 2021 sees the release of ‘Jetlag‘ – the debut album from SENU.

The release of ‘Jetlag’ will be celebrated with a launch show, ‘Jetlag’ performed in its entirety, filmed live at Fuel HQ in Dublin, to be streamed on Nialler9’s YouTube channel at 8pm on Friday 21st May.

In addition, MCD has announced that tickets for SENU’s headline show at The Grand Social on 22nd February 2022 will go on sale today at 9am via Ticketmaster.

Over the past year producer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Killeen has been releasing his original music under the moniker SENU, a vehicle for his unique blend of electronic beats, jazz and hip-hop. Today, he releases ‘Jetlag’ – the debut album from SENU.

A sprawling electronic soundscape documenting a journey from Ireland to New York and back again, this is an album borne out of experimentation in more ways than one. Frustrated by insomnia, Sam challenged himself to write and record an album in one day. ‘Jetlag’ is the result of this experiment.

“Jetlag, as a whole, is about an experience meeting one of my musical idols, Evan Marien. I ended up staying in New York with him for a week and on return to Ireland I was overwhelmed with sleep deprivation, so I decided to challenge myself by attempting to write a full album in one night. This album is the result,” says SENU of the album’s origins.

As Nialler9 wrote in 2018: “If you’re well versed in the Irish music scene, you’ve probably tripped across Sam Killeen before.” Sam is well known for his work as a professional guitarist and musical director, having worked with the likes of James Vincent McMorrow, The Divine Comedy, Lisa Hannigan, Villagers, Loah, Bantum and more. Recently, he conducted strings for The Scratch’s album anniversary show (watch here). With his original music, he has supported acts such as Mark Guiliana, Cory Wong and the aforementioned Evan Marien.

Sam says: “As a session musician, my job usually involves writing and performing parts to music that specifically suits someone else’s style, whatever the genre may be. SENU became a place where I could push my boundaries creatively using the styles I love the most: electronic, jazz & hip hop music.”

While SENU is a vehicle for Sam to express his individual style, he is quick to credit the guest vocalists on the album with adding a new dimension to it. “Having Jamel Franklin [of Shy Mascot] and Caoi De Barra [of Wyvern Lingo] write on the album really lifted the music from its prior instrumental state,” he says. “Lyrics have been a great input to the music by the additional dialogue creating a space and image to the song. Both Caoi and Jamel have a unique energy and it was a real joy creating music with them.”

Ambient composer Matthias Puech announces forthcoming album

After the exploration of snowy mountains of Alpestres, released on Hands in the Dark in 2018, French composer Matthias Puech ventures into new territories, sketching a cartography of the invisible where the journey, in chiaroscuro, is announced as a rite of passage. A Geography of Absence, as introspective as unpredictable, immerses the listener into a unique sensory whirlwind where organic matter becomes almost palpable. A researcher in theoretical computer science and an engineer at GRM, Matthias Puech constructs a dialog between synthetic music and field recording, capturing sounds that surround him and creating his own sonic language with the help of synthesizers he designs and develops; notably the Oscillator Ensemble and the Tapographic Delay, made by the American company 4ms.

A Geography of Absence retraces an inner journey where the physicality of sound leads the listener into an initiatory tunnel filled with apparitions, ghosts, visions. With sound oscillations as a navigational map, we progress, step by step, through the meanders of an unknown world, dazzled by the prospect of a new synthetic horizon, an electronic biotope teeming with life and incarnations. Playing with time, space and matter in an approach similar to that of musique concrète, Matthias Puech combines ambient and noise, floating sounds and electroacoustic experimentations, thus shaking up our listening perspective, which finds itself walking through a parallel universe, strata after strata, sequence after sequence.
