Indie-Rock band Voodoo Bandits shares music video

Four-piece indie rock group the Voodoo Bandits have just premiered their music video for their song ‘Empty Swimming Pools’ via Clash Magazine. They have been featured on Youtube channels to watch such as Fancy Melancholic and Sounds New Sounds Good. The group has a collective stream rate of 140 000 plays thus far. Their debut single was voted as track of the week on Indie Rocks Radio Manchester. Voodoo Bandits have also been included Idobi Radio’s “Anthm” playlist, as well as inclusion in Spotify’s ‘Hot New Bands’ Editorial Playlist. Their previous single ‘Ride The Wave’ premiered via XS Noize, and featured in Indie Central Music, Echoes and Dust, and Music Injection.

The entire group was born and raised in the Bee Gees neighborhood, the Isle of Man. Two members are still residing there, while two are studying at universities in Liverpool and Newcastle. The band consists of band members Ben Donaldson (Rhythm Guitar & Vocals), Corey Vaughan (Lead Guitar), Nathan Vaughan (Drums) and Charlotte Wilby (Bass). Voodoo Bandits have cited musical influences from Circa Waves and Hockey Dad for their energetic and warm atmosphere that they create with their music. Their music video captures the joyful atmosphere and energy of the band and pays homage to the 90’s skateboarding scene.

Voodoo Bandits explains the meaning behind the video, We wanted to create a fun, easy-going, video that accompanied the vibe of the song. Expressing our personalities as a band; to us the song sounds like a skateboard on a half-pipe, if that makes any sense! So we went down to our local indoor skatepark, grabbed some B-roll of ourselves and some skaters and got jamming! To top it off we used some 90s video cam aesthetics to fit the theme.”

Oracle Sisters releases a new song ‘Asc. Scorpio’

Parisian trio Oracle Sisters return today (March 11th) with new single ‘Asc. Scorpio’, a swaying astral pop stomp of surrealist vignettes. Their first new music of 2020, ‘Asc. Scorpio’ is a taste of their long-awaited debut EP due for release later this Spring.

The idea of the song was born when Lewis (lead guitarist) was stung by a scorpion in Jamaica. The bite travelled back to Paris, along with the scorpion which he caught and smuggled through customs.

Sat down with Chris (lead vocals) one afternoon over a drum machine, an acoustic guitar, the newly erected scorpion shrine and a sudden astrological epiphany, they got to writing ‘Asc. Scorpio’. Initially inspired by A Tribe Called Quest, they built upon the drum machine, layering their now-signature three-part harmonies and reverb-drenched guitars over the beats.

Q&A with Uk-based guitar trio SEN3

UK-based new genre-hopping guitar trio SEN3 have emerged from London’s melting pot. The band create a compelling wide-screen soundworld that’s rich in melody and emotive harmonies, contemporary beat-culture and heavy riffs.

The SEN3 adventure started in 2012, when guitarist Max, drummer Saleem, and bass player Dan met at a live music night in Shoreditch and felt almost instant chemistry. They quickly started a jam band who navigated between Hip-Hop, Jazz Fusion, Funk and 70’s rock, organically developing their sound solely through playing together.

What are some of your earliest memories of music?

Being 8 years old having guitar lessons at school and hating it ha!

Listening to Nat King Cole in the car with my mum

Take us through your songwriting process. Are there any particular steps you take when putting music together?

We meet up improvise either freely or around some kind of template. Most of the material is put together and tested live on gigs. We don’t really come to the table with finished songs we each bring a different element and mesh it together to create a unified sound. We find the best stuff happens when we are playing freely and ultimately having fun. This tends to happen when we take a risk and try out some new unrehearsed ideas in front of an audience. We used to have a few residencies around London that we’d use as writing sessions eventually fully finished tunes came out from these performances. For us we come up with the best stuff this way – you can always tell if something is working in a live show more than in a rehearsal room. Sometimes things don’t work as well as we thought and then we go back to the drawing board. With enough trial and error we ended up piecing together the songs in a way we think works the best for an audience.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, which do you prefer?

We love making new music and getting in the studio but we are definitely a live band at heart – we love playing live and taking an audience with us on a journey. We always dig in more live. There’s an energy you get on a gig that you don’t get in the studio.

What is the most memorable response you have had to your music?

Hard to pin that down to one thing. We are genuinely blown away that people come out to these shows and show us support. We started this band to have some fun and play out some ideas without any real preconceived plan. It means a lot to us that people keep coming back for more !. We recently played a sold-out show at Pizza express soho it just shows how far the band has come since we started this to have a laugh playing some ideas in a pub. We are really proud of this.

If you could put together a radio show, what kind of music would you play?

A mixture Psychedelic 70’s jazz-rock,  Indie and minimalist electronic music

Name five artists and their albums who would appear on your radio show

Four Tet – There is love in you

Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon

Mahavishnu Orchestra – Inner Mountain flame

Madvillain – Madvillainy

Joy Division – Unknown pleasures

What would you like to achieve with your music? What does success look like to you?

We want to travel the world with our music and meet new people in places. We’d love to play in Japan!

One last thought to leave your fans with?

We are always working on new material and taking our sound to new unknown territories – album III is coming soon!

Haunt the Woods announce their March UK headline tour

Ambient rockers Haunt The Woods have announced a UK headline tour for March, following the release of their upcoming debut album, “Opaque”, on February 28th.

Starting in their native Cornwall, the band will play shows in Exeter, including the spectacularly atmospheric Carnglaze Caverns before dates in Bristol, Southampton, Norwich, Newcastle, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, and London’s The Lexington.

The announcement follows the release of their new single, ‘Supernova’, which was accompanied by a mysterious and surreal video featuring dramatic cinematography and an emotionally charged storyline. The latest track to be taken from “Opaque”, it’s an intoxicating blend of immersive and climactic musicality, which pulsates between ever-changing forms of hushed intimacy and explosive passion, anthemic choruses and poignant verses.

‘Supernova’ follows the release of previous singles ‘Elephant’, ‘Amethyst’, and the beautifully cathartic acoustic video for ‘Fly’, released last year. Throughout the record, Haunt The Woods push the boundaries of musicality, expression and emotional sentiment with an eclectic collection of euphoria, melancholia and reflection interwoven across thirteen tracks of absorbing sonic landscapes.

Blending sounds from alternative, prog, folk and pop and channelling influences from the likes of Pink Floyd, Muse, Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, Haunt The Woods have crafted a distinctive sound, glistening with ambient swells and underpinned by expressive rhythms and masterly songwriting.

The band released two EPs, “The Line” and “Circle” last year, and have performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Boardmasters and Port Elliot, as well as performing sold-out shows at London’s Old Blue Last and St Pancras Old Church and supporting a range of artists from the likes of Sunset Sons to KT Tunstall.
