“This song was inspired by the shocking and cathartic beauty of the Northern Lights. I became obsessed with the natural phenomenon and wanted to write a song about what the experience would be like if the northern lights were happening inside of my being.” – Marya Stark tells us about her single, ‘Stargazer ft. Elijah Ray’.

Jimkata are a three-piece anthemic, synth-washed, electro-rock band based out of Ithaca and Los Angeles. With a triumph of swirling analog synths, infectious pop hooks and candid lyrics, Jimkata have built a distinct sound which has been resonating with listeners across the country.

Friends since middle school, Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch and Packy Lunn infuse Jimkata, (named after the so-bad-it’s-good 1985 gym-fu caper Gymkata) with both an adventurous musical streak and relatable lyrical themes. Mixed in with the modern synth sensibilities and hard driven indie rock are influences drawn from the likes of Motown, singer-songwriters like James Taylor and even old country songs, where storytelling and a quick turn of phrase share priorities with melody and the beat. Jimkata have concocted an unusually rich and rewarding mix and one that’s evolved naturally.

After taking a two and a half year hiatus following the release of six studio albums and the successful building of a vibrant, grassroots fanbase, Jimkata are preparing to release their next album, Bonfires. The 10 track album is set for release as a series of singles every month with an accompanying visuals and merch line.  Thematically, Bonfires touches on poignant themes of uncertainty, being in limbo, and looking for an anchor of hope in these trying times.

Bonfires is set for release Spring 2021 worldwide.

Cadet Carter, a band known for their indie-rock stylings that keep fans intrigued, have released the music video for their latest single, ‘The Best Part’. Both the single and the video were released today via 8 Ohm Records. The video was directed by Bastian Scholl, who uses the chance to explore childhood memories and nostalgia.

“I am so happy Cadet Carter has asked me to work with them on their new video. The song is probably the most optimistic thing that came out this year and I wanted to give the video a melancholic but still positive spin. I can not wait for everybody to listen to the song and watch the video!”Bastian Scholl tells us about the joys of working on the video.

Stream/ Download: ‘The Best Part’

The band have been compared to the likes of Blink 182, Knuckle Puck and Biffy Clyro and the comparisons stand true, as the soaring guitar riffs and spirited vocals take centre stage. The final impression of childhood play times resulting in long-lasting is the positive reinforcement we were needing to end the year on.

Catalan trio MOURN share a new video for their track, Gather, Reallyfrom their new album, Self Worth out now via Captured Tracks.

On “Gather, Really” they sing with an unflinching urgency and vital courage that becomes a magical, chemical act, once again proving that music as an outburst is part of MOURN‘s nature.

The Alex Fernández directed video takes on the aesthetic of a jazzy espionage show set in the 60s, a black and white clip shot in the hills of their hometowns just outside of Barcelona that revolves around an unwelcome mystery concealed in a briefcase.

The band further explain, “Gather, Really describes the feeling of being connected with your mates through sharing experiences, discussing the world and having the feeling of community while having some drinks. Letting everything that anguishes you go and enjoying the company of your chosen family. Coming to conclusions all together, dealing with problems and healing while talking. We wanted for the music video to represent that gathering but this time we acted as thieves from an old black and white movie.”
