Individualism celebrated in Russell Louder’s latest electro-pop single

Think of some of the strongest vocals you’ve heard – how have they impacted you as you’ve listened to them, kept them on repeat in your home throughout the years? Russell Louder presents the next single to add to your ever-expanding playlist – ‘HOME’.

Using gender-neutral pronouns (they/them), Russell Louder is at the forefront of the LGBTQ community, as they campaign for mutual respect. An avid supporter of the effort to end violence against sex workers as well as promoting the need for trans healthcare in their home town, the singer is constantly pushing for a better world. The artist draws on their experiences in life to create their startling unique sound – transforming difficult experiences into soaring pop laden melodies.

HOME’, premiered today and released tomorrow, is the foreshadowing of their upcoming EP – HUMOR which will be released on the 26th of February via Lisbon Lux Records. The EP will be available on all digital platforms but for the old-school fans such as ourselves, you’ll also be able to order it on both vinyl and CD. Aside from ‘HOME’, fans have been treated to the release of a few other singles from the album, one of our favourites being, ‘Light Of The Moon’. Recap the year with obylx’s latest indie-pop album

The final release from obylx has had us on the edge of seats for a while, with the knowledge that his latest album would contain an unseen track. Out Of The Woods, released today via Guise Records, contains the shimmering splendour of ‘Alright’, the final track of the year. Marking three years of blood, sweat and tears, the album is a sign that any young producer starting out can build a similar empire with enough work.

The well-known producer takes us through some of the tracks on the album and the significance they carry: “This year I have been exploring other areas in my life, be it the ending (‘Take Me’) and starting of relationships (‘Alright’), solitude (‘Day By Day’), conflict (‘The Leech’) and good times (‘Skin’). I have also started writing from other’s perspectives -‘Another Life’ being the clearest example. I feel like it has been a year that has concluded my wandering and has led me out of my metaphorical forest. I have learned how to deal with grief and turn it into a driving force. At the start of the project I deliberately left space so that I could grow into it. I have reached that place and now ready to ‘Walk On’ into next year.”

As the producer has been releasing singles throughout the year, Out Of The Woods can be seen as a form of a musical time-capsule, with each track reflecting a part of the dramatic year we’ve all had. The expression of emotions from obylx as he’s travelled the year has been captivating, as listeners have shared in both his joys and his sorrows. Art-pop singer Kit Major releases introspective song

Los Angeles-based art-pop artist Kit Major shares “When the Drugs Don’t Work”, a more introspective stab at her signature dark, electropop sound, building on her single “Mind” from October. Under The Radar premiered the track a few days earlier, praising how the track “leans into a dark, electro pop feel. The chilly and introspective opening blooms into a driving dance beat and thumping synths, married to a percussive, hyperpop-influenced outro. Contrasting with the darker sound though, comes a tender and warm lyrical perspective.”

Taking inspiration from Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, and Charlotte Lawrence, “When the Drugs Don’t Work” dives into the overwhelming vulnerability and panic of failing to curb a depressive episode with medication. With this release, Kit Major furthers her efforts to be open and make light of her mental health struggles.

Speaking about “When the Drugs Don’t Work,” Kit Major says: “It was cathartic to write, so visually I wanted it to be something light, fun and freeing. Life isn’t supposed to be this hard and sad, there should be joy and freedom too. Don’t take things too seriously or literally. I write about my depression to be able to dance about my depression. I first wrote this song because I had a major depressive episode in April from everything… COVID, the state of our world, the state of our nation, the fact I also deal with anxiety and depression… everything. I was taking my meds and it still made me feel as if I wasn’t on them, so I wrote down “what happens when your drugs don’t work?” I try, and am still learning, to be as open as possible about my mental state.“

Emi Wes shares bold vocals in song Cry Baby

With a voice that balances the fragility of Amy Winehouse against the sheer power of Aretha Franklin, Singer-Songwriter Emi Wes has spent the last couple of years working with Danish Songwriters and experimenting with different genres to perfect her musical craft.

The stars aligned for Emi, as she eventually found the core of her musical foundation; a sound that is completely hers. Entering a new collaboration with renowned producer Robin Hannibal, Emi is ready to kickstart her career with the release of her new single ‘Issues’.

Brimming with rawness, the harmonious piano-led melody graciously weaves through silky strings as it reaches the chorus; creating the perfect springboard for Emi’s gripping vocals. Its execution is mournful and pure yet tinged with a hint of optimism which appears to define her unique compositional style.

Emi’s debut EP ‘Departure’ is due to land 13^th November 2020, via No Rules No Limits.
