Up-and-comer Amber Jones unveils debut song, ‘Blueberries’

New to the scene, singer Amber Jones has not held back. Her first song, newly released, is a clean R&B song that sounds anything but amateur. She is clearly taking her work seriously. Titled ‘Blueberries’, her new song is simultaneously a youth anthem and a confession.

Too tempted, the nurse-by-day gives into the good time and now has shared it with listeners. It’s worth noting that the single was mixed and mastered by engineer Scott Welch who has experience tinkering with the creations of GRAMMY Award-nominated group Tank and the Bangas.

Amber Jones unpacks the song further: “’Blueberries’ was inspired by life choices, life choices that I haven’t necessarily been proud of. Life choices that I paid emotional consequences for. But it is these choices that have led to not only maturity but a more straightedge lifestyle.”

KID BE KID indulges playful side in new album

Ready your sonic sweet tooth. After months of waiting, fans can now enjoy KID BE KID’s new album Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream. Released via Fun In The Church, the project features the previously released singles ‘News Feed’ and ‘Naked Times’, and it is also available on CD.

Stream / Download: Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream LP

KID BE KID‘s new project conveys a sense of child-like playfulness. Not immature (it is anything but), but loose and unbounded. This can likely be attributed to the reference to the good ‘ol childhood treat. Yes, she juxtaposes the harsh and overly restrictive adulthood ambitions with the devilish sweetness of soft serve on a sugar cone.

KID BE KID articulates the deeper message behind the album: “Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream breaks away from the widespread dream of wanting to be like ‘Barbie and Ken’ – the constructed standard of gender and beauty, the filters through which we view ourselves and others. With this album, I’m putting a magnifying glass in your hand, made specifically for real emotion and deeper meaning. All you have to do is pick it up, and the journey into an exciting world begins.”

Caught in the glow of the spotlight, Dance-pop duo Split Kick have stuck their hands in the hat and pulled out a retro number titled ‘Fantasy’, out now via Love Swing Records. Comprised of Canadian musician Andrew Corbin and Miami native Pete Neonakis, the pair bring their love of high-energy music to their latest pumping dance track.

‘Fantasy’ is a throwback record that brings to mind the two dominant golden eras of dance music. Yes, that’s right. The ‘70s and ‘80s are back, baby, with Split Kick taking the lead. In it, there’s a bit of everything: smooth Disco flavour here with a touch of the classic House there. A solid four-on-the-floor kick and snare combo establishes the track’s foundation, while a neon-bright vocal hook illuminates the upper layers of the track.

Describing their intentions for the track, the duo said: “We wanted to create a minimalistic tune that pumps hard for the DJ’s, while also adding something unique and interesting with the vocals. Fantasy feels like that classic late night banger that gets you through to your second wind.”

May 12, 2023 The Burma returns with new glazy song

The Burma returns with new glazy song

The Burma are back but with something different. Where their debut album focused on the Indie rock side of things (read our piece on the LP), their latest offering, a single titled ‘23’, leans more toward the Dream Pop side of things, with heavily glazy vocals, soft plucks, and woozy guitar filters. A languid record that drifts among the clouds, ‘23’ sees lead vocalist Tony O Donovan reflecting, looking to the past to inspire the mood that pervades the track.

Will the trio continue to paint the remainder of their forthcoming sophomore album (yes, there is one in the works) with a similar brush, I wonder? Touching on the subject, the band shared: “‘23’” is the first song we wrote and recorded for our second album. It’s one of those songs that came together really quickly. The song you hear now has barely changed from its initial conception, which is a rare thing for us!”

Listen to ‘23’ here!

The Burma Tour Date(s):

3 June – Wild Roots, Sligo

4 June – You Bloom, Co. Dublin
