Versatile artist omyügen reveals an incredibly intimate single, ‘Dark Corner’

The innovative US-based singer-songwriter, producer and filmmaker omyügen (moniker of Michael X. Schallert) has unveiled a new single titled ā€˜Dark Corner’, released on November 3rd, 2023 via his label Omyügen Records. In 2016, omyügen began to produce under the alias Juse before rebranding to his current moniker, producing tracks that include his vocals, blending pop, electronic, and a multitude of other genres. Sponsored by the Wyoming Art Council, omyügen has worked as a producer for rap artist Gunnr and had his music featured on UKTalk Radio top 10 charts for Feb ā€˜22. ā€˜Dark Corner’ was mixed by Sean Dorrian, who worked on a number one billboard song with Breaking Benjamin, and mastered by Chris Athens, who has worked with the likes of Drake, Kodak Black, Hollywood Undead and Joji, to name a few.Ā

ā€˜Dark Corner’ tells a story of the isolation and pain that a person struggling with anxiety is subjected to. It begins as a piano ballad, tender yet tense, and unexpectedly ignites with the introduction of a gritty trap beat & bass as omyügen’s glitchy, effects-soaked vocals float hazily over the fray. Omyügen’s voice is smoky and husky, suitably dark for the song’s melancholic lyrics and charged with deep emotion.

omyügen commented on the track: ā€œMy song, Dark Corner, is about the life of an introvert with anxiety, basically. I wrote the song when I was back home from college for the summer. It’s my first ever song to get professionally mixed and mastered, so that’s kinda cool.ā€Ā

Interview with soulful singer-songwriter Davis Caruso

Michigan-based R&B singer Davis Caruso released his new single and accompanying music video ā€˜Reggae In An Icestorm’ on the 22nd of September via MICHIGROWN. The experimental American singer-songwriter has built up an extensive catalog of self-written music, and has performed primarily as a busker on the streets of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Michigan where he showcases his sublime talent for crafting intricate and personal songs unbound by genre. The track has already premiered and received support from notable webzine EARMILK. Watch the music video and read our interview with him below.

Walk us through your creative process?

I think it’s changing all the time. I make creativity a priority and apply it to everything I do.

Who are your biggest artistic influences?

Probably my closest friends and collaborators. They inspire more of my artistic expression than anyone else.

What instruments do you play?

Guitar, bass guitar, piano and ukelele

What would you like to work with if you weren’t a musician?

Maybe wood!

Whats one piece of gear you can’t live without? What equipment are you using?

I could live without all of it. I’ll use whatever I’ve got, even if it’s my voice, clapping my hands and stomping my feet. I have collected a hand full of instruments that were built by my friend Gary Zimnicki. Other than that, I have a few toys that help me execute my creative choices! The computer is essential these days…

Tell us something unrelated to music. What are your hobbies?

I love to dance and find myself in a park with a coffee or tea and a book. I also love to support other people’s art when the opportunity arises.

If you could meet one performer/artist who would it be?

Thats a tough one… too tough.

What does the future hold for you as an artist?

Surprises šŸ™‚
