KID BE KID indulges playful side in new album

Ready your sonic sweet tooth. After months of waiting, fans can now enjoy KID BE KID’s new album Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream. Released via Fun In The Church, the project features the previously released singles ‘News Feed’ and ‘Naked Times’, and it is also available on CD.

Stream / Download: Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream LP

KID BE KID‘s new project conveys a sense of child-like playfulness. Not immature (it is anything but), but loose and unbounded. This can likely be attributed to the reference to the good ‘ol childhood treat. Yes, she juxtaposes the harsh and overly restrictive adulthood ambitions with the devilish sweetness of soft serve on a sugar cone.

KID BE KID articulates the deeper message behind the album: “Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream breaks away from the widespread dream of wanting to be like ‘Barbie and Ken’ – the constructed standard of gender and beauty, the filters through which we view ourselves and others. With this album, I’m putting a magnifying glass in your hand, made specifically for real emotion and deeper meaning. All you have to do is pick it up, and the journey into an exciting world begins.”

Gowned in gold, German musician KID BE KID breaks down the walls to reveal her true self in her new single ‘Naked Times’, an exploration of what it means to be real in a plastic digital world–a theme further alluded to by the title of her upcoming album Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream, which will see streaming platforms on the 9th of June. No disguises here. But who is the artist behind the moniker?

Stream ‘Naked Times’ on SpotifyiTunes

KID BE KID is a trained pianist with an antithetical approach to the traditional approach of playing music. She prefers the liberation that Jazz improvisation provides, composing music akin to the work of English singer FKA twigs, blending soulful vocals with avant-instrumentation to create something bordering the Art Pop genre.

Her musical admixture has gained the attention of magazines listeners will recognise: Complex UK and Jazzwise UK have previously published their support for the Fun In The Church signee, while a station native to her home country, German station Deutschlandfunk Kultur, has aired her work. 2023 will see her tour Europe at venues like the culture centre Kulturetage Halle in Oldenburg, Germany and the live music venue Les Cuizines, Ville de Chelles in France.

KID BE KID Tour Dates 2023

23rd March – Burghof, Lörrach, Germany

24th March – Les Cuizines, Ville de Chelles (near Paris), France

May 17, 2022 Review: Singer NAVA shares beautifully juxtaposed EP

Review: Singer NAVA shares beautifully juxtaposed EP

Attention commanding musician NAVA has shared her latest four-track EP NAFAS. The Oyez! release also features the charming but daring track ‘GAZ’ which speaks on the struggles of being an artist and woman in the modern world. The rest of the EP shares other thoughts on relationships and loyalty with confidence and an avant pop glow.

Pounding drums and bold synth elements open the track ‘Senti’, which mixes foreign languages with English. The result is a beautiful juxtaposition of languages and sounds that playfully collide with each other. Featured song ‘YEK’ is as bold as its capitalized track title suggests. Packed with dark electronic elements, there is an eerie element to its mood but it still maintains a composed and fierce tone like the rest of the EP.

The final track ‘Respiro’ has otherworldly qualities with aired-out synth notes and a gentle beat. The entire track is sung with conviction and poise that is highly addictive.

Electronic musician MARIA Die RUHE embraces insecurity with song ‘Skin’

Evocative songbird MARIA Die RUHE has shared her latest single ‘Skin’ which explores sexuality and body positivity. The songstress brings a fresh approach to her art, like a phoenix she has risen and conquers her fears and insecurities one song at a time. The track was released yesterday via Reduced To the Root, and is a divine ethereal body accepting anthem. Orchestral and electronic fusions collide with the mystically alluring vocals of the songstress.

Stream / Download: ‘Skin’

MARIA Die RUHE shares personal insight on how the track came to be: “I disliked my body for the longest period of my life for different reasons. I was always ashamed of getting undressed first in school sports, later with lovers. A lot of women share this phenomenon. This is insane. Today, I know that I am perfect as I am and beautiful. Do you like this vehicle you were born into? Your body? Your body is a magical machine with incredible functions and huge abilities to learn, develop, change. It is always there for you. You are your body and your body becomes the thoughts you are giving to it. With ‘SKIN’, I am rounding up my life and travelling the transformation of making peace with my body and loving and nurturing it as it is. My body. The only one I have in this life.”

‘Skin’ features on POP_GROUND.fm

We have all felt or feel insecure about something at a certain point in our life, MARIA Die RUHE embraces her insecurities and blooms through doing so. Regardless of where you are in your journey of self-acceptance, I think we can all take a petal from the singer’s insightful lyrical bouquet that gives one a touch of hope and liberation to look beyond the surface.
