Los Angeles-based alt singer-songwriter NAKAYA shares her brand new EP, Fire Becomes Me (out now via Better Company Records). This new four-track project is about growth and resilience as it chronicles Nakaya’s journey towards self-acceptance.

Speaking on the EP, NAKAYA wrote: “Honestly, I started this project feeling completely directionless but what I found was that Fire Becomes Me became my source of healing. I would love to tie the theme up with a singular bow but life is not so linear so I will say that it chronicles a vast change. I always made frail attempts at controlling the way my life went, but in this record you can see me grow from a person who fought with circumstance to one that embraced a sense of acceptance through my experiences. I am mutating and growing and shifting and I think the work reflects that.”

Evocative songbird MARIA Die RUHE has shared her latest single ‘Skin’ which explores sexuality and body positivity. The songstress brings a fresh approach to her art, like a phoenix she has risen and conquers her fears and insecurities one song at a time. The track was released yesterday via Reduced To the Root, and is a divine ethereal body accepting anthem. Orchestral and electronic fusions collide with the mystically alluring vocals of the songstress.

Stream / Download: ‘Skin’

MARIA Die RUHE shares personal insight on how the track came to be: “I disliked my body for the longest period of my life for different reasons. I was always ashamed of getting undressed first in school sports, later with lovers. A lot of women share this phenomenon. This is insane. Today, I know that I am perfect as I am and beautiful. Do you like this vehicle you were born into? Your body? Your body is a magical machine with incredible functions and huge abilities to learn, develop, change. It is always there for you. You are your body and your body becomes the thoughts you are giving to it. With ‘SKIN’, I am rounding up my life and travelling the transformation of making peace with my body and loving and nurturing it as it is. My body. The only one I have in this life.”

‘Skin’ features on POP_GROUND.fm

We have all felt or feel insecure about something at a certain point in our life, MARIA Die RUHE embraces her insecurities and blooms through doing so. Regardless of where you are in your journey of self-acceptance, I think we can all take a petal from the singer’s insightful lyrical bouquet that gives one a touch of hope and liberation to look beyond the surface.

Keys N Krates are here to lead us down a dark road of juvenile rebellion and temptation ranging from underage drinking and driving to “scientific” experimentation. Yet, with bright, irresistible colours and an even better beat, the video for ‘Original Classics’ lends humour at all the right points and, despite everything, we find ourselves rooting for all the wrong people. But then again, Bird Peterson seems to have that effect with his work.

WATCH:

The single, ‘Original Classics’ is the title track of Keys N Krates recently released album via Last Gang Records which has gained repute around the world. In support of the album, Keys N Krates are currently out on their 20-date headlining US Original Classic Tour, with their next stop in Minneapolis at the Skyway Theatre.

“We knew that we wanted to bring out the fun aspect of this song and accentuate how everyone involved is a character in their own right. We linked up with Bird Peterson, who’s an incredible animator. On the first call with Bird we thought the process was going to be really collaborative and that we were going to have all these great ideas to feed him to do his thing with. Instead, he basically said, “this is the treatment” and proceeded to describe this whole 60’s style cereal commercial world he had created in his head that involved Juicy J leading children (us) into mischief. After dying of laughter, we all just said “ya go do that,” and this is what came out. We’re very happy to have found Bird and his insane talents.”

October 13, 2021 Oddball electronic music producer Race Banyon shares bouncy song ‘Attention’

Oddball electronic music producer Race Banyon shares bouncy song ‘Attention’

Race Banyon returns with fast-paced club oriented new single Attention’, released via EMK – the new electronic music platform launched by Kartel Music Group.

The producer crafts an uplifting Chicago House-influenced cut fuelled by a busy summer festival season in his native New Zealand and “the joy of being out hearing dance music live again”. On the flip side, ‘Ride This Out’, sees Race Banyon exploring cathartic euphoria and ‘crying on the dance floor’ emotional and soothing textures, representing his “longing for the club and human connection.”

Diving deeper into the production process Race Banyon explains: “Attention’ is in the pocket of energy that I really enjoy – faster than traditional House but not too far up there. It feels really exciting. I wrote it over the summer, I’d been out dancing quite a bit when I stumbled into this Chicago House, Paul Johnson-esque place. The song features my own singing which was really born out of the desire to not just sample another early 2000s R&B acapella. The lyrics are somewhat meaningless though, they do sound like I’m talking about the particular brand of people I would meet in LA.”

‘Attention’ follows on from the release ofEP 2, a perfectly balanced body of work, singles including high tempoBack & Forth’, the London In Stereo and Indie London-approved Pressure Off’ and deep house R&B-tinged cut ‘We Need It’.featuring late-night cinematic synths, tech-house club constructions and propulsive beats, While his previous releases,  including the single ‘Move With Us’ – taken from EP 1, saw support from the likes of Clash, which praised his “experimental take on melody and structure” to the work of Jon Hopkins and James Holden.

Under his Race Banyon alias, Johnston has already garnered the attention of every music platform that count; his collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign and DJ Dahi for Red Bull Sound Select has seen support from the likes of Complex, Dummy, The Fader, Hypebeast and Stereogum, with Red Bull calling him “New Zealand’s next big thing”. While his “tastefully minimalist production,” as defined by Dummy has led to him sharing stages with the likes of Jamie XX, Rustie and Kaytranada, to name a few.

Cultivating a cult following online for the atmospheric pop songs he creates as Lontalius, which opened the doors to a collaboration with Ryan Hemsworth and prompt AnOther Magazine to list him their ‘New Zealand’s New Musical Revolution’ feature – Johnston was only 14 when started making music as Race Banyon – a project which he describes as “production focused and dance oriented”.
