RYYZN are a Vancouver-based duo comprised of David York and Jessie Elias who come from Calgary and Saskatoon respectively. We waited in anticipation to hear what RYYZN and Marcus James were releasing next, after watching their breathtaking acoustic take on their single ‘Night Light’ . The Warning Sign (Stripped) EP definitely lives up to the hype of its predecessor. The acoustic edition of Warning Sign features a combination of noteworthy quirks, like it’s honeyed alternative vocal range from duo RYYZN that has captured you from the beginning. Along with this, is the unforgettable instrumental compositions from Marcus James – leaves you wanting more.

Marcus James shares the importance of the new version of the EP:

This Stripped EP is our way of coming full circle for the final chapter of the Warning Sign project and releasing all four songs in the acoustic form that they were first written and recorded. It was important to us from a songwriting standpoint to make sure these songs worked “stripped-down” before we turned them into the productions released on the original EP. I guess somewhere along the line we figured if these songs work in their original form, why not let people hear them in that way?

Alt-pop composer Evan Klar announces forthcoming EP

Rising German-Australian musician / composer Evan Klar is poised to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘Illusions’, lifted from the forthcoming EP due this summer through cult Berlin label Grönland Records.

Drawing on a myriad of influences from house, pop, soul and trap, ‘Illusions‘, produced by power-house duo Kilian & Jo (Tujamo, Cro, Majan), is an effervescent, addictive slice of alt-pop bliss, offering us the perfect respite we all need right now. Evan says: ‘This is one of my more ambitious pop-centric releases to date, I call it ‘Cloud trap with a heavy dose of Vitamin D’, a screamingly catchy spark towards self confession and happiness.”

Currently residing between Berlin and Melbourne by way of Singapore, the self-confessed pop addict spends all his time producing music for both himself and other artists and claims his “confusing identity” fuels his approach to making pop music.

Evan’s nomadic lifestyle led him across Europe plying his trade as a session musician for Primary One, Charlie XCX, and Alex Metric, including appearances at Glastonbury, Big Chill, and The Great Escape Festival. Evan ultimately felt disconnected when playing other’s music, and decided to pursue his own path. “Pop music keeps me young and happy, it kinda reminds me of playing with lego as a kid” – his approach seemingly carefree but his writing often deeply personal and inquisitive.

2020 was an exciting year for Evan Klar, signing with Groenland Records / Monchique, to release of his first single ‘I do’ with radio support from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. ‘I do’ was followed by three further releases: ‘Figure it out’ (over 3 million streams) in collaboration with artist and producer Novaa, as well as ‘Make the Most of This’ and ‘Costume Shop’. Coupled with his refreshing self-made approach to music, Evan Klar has accumulated over 160.000 monthly Spotify listeners through a turbulent year. ‘Illusions’ is Klar’s first release of 2021 and the beginning of much more to come.

Purchase the Sea Sons EP as a NFT

The wait is finally over for the release of the latest downtempo EP Sea Sons by prolific musicians in their own right; Thomas Blondet & Steven Rubin. Speaking to the soul without saying a word, Sea Sons is an enigmatic experience that one should absorb whenever they deem fit. With the recent closure Eighteenth Street Lounge, an underground electronic club where Blondet had a residency for two decades, the DJ saw it fitting to release an EP inspired by his time there.

Thomas Blondet describes what the EP release means to him, “Sea Sons, to me, is an ode to Eighteenth Street Lounge. While making this album I felt it was something that would be played at ESL. I imagine sitting near the fireplace and sipping on some fine wine on a Saturday evening.”

The other mind to marvel at the direction of this album, would-be musician and fellow collaborator Steven Rubin. Steven brings a tinge of instrumental incorporating rock riffs into the downtempo landscape with finesse. Sea Sons is a collaborative EP where backgrounds collide and form a magical listening experience for all.

January 11, 2021 Experimental pop duo We Will Kaleid releases evocative EP

Experimental pop duo We Will Kaleid releases evocative EP

Absorbing our seasonal sadness, art/experimental pop duo We Will Kaleid released two last songs last year: Revoke/Aphelion.

“Revoke” is about self hypnosis floating on a wave of uncertainty, finally resolving into a stream of regret. The band details the track. It’s about the moment you realise that you did or said something that caused damage beyond repair. You are lost in indecision and uncertainty but somehow still comforted by monotony. A mellow, weightless, translucent, lulling state of mind.

“Aphelion” deals with what lies underneath it all, the one thing that we desire most. Loosing yourself in loosing one another. A void that even though filled with loss and grief, remains empty. Pure, calming, honest, weird.

We Will Kaleid create dense and oppressive arrangements with minimalist sound material. Upon rough textures of analog synthesizers, a dark and intoxicating atmosphere is forged with few but multi-faceted beat and voice fragments. We Will Kaleid are looking for a strong contrast. In dense electronic songs they prefer direct confrontation to comfortable harmony.

Just as on their latest EP “Tongue” We Will Kaleid take up dysfunctional aspects of communication and offers both spaces for self-confrontation as well as an escape from reality. The band’s output is a confusing, unpleasant trip into one’s own aggressive, ugly self. We Will Kaleid are a haunting and captivating appearance, with a clear stance: they do not offer an easy cure, the band remains consistently unforgiving.
