DJ Wax Tailor keeps it moving and grooving in hip hop remix

Back in 2019, the world of trip-hop began to stir as Wax Tailor released the disturbingly captivating single, ‘The Light’ and murmurs of more releases began to arise. Early 2020 the producer released the unmistakable single, ‘Keep It Movin’ featuring D Smoke, the winner of Netflix’s “Rhythm + Flow” competition. The release of ‘Keep It Movin’ came at a dark time, as the pandemic set in and the world was confronted with the truth of police brutality in a harsh yet undeniable way. However, the upbeat, anthemic nature of the song managed to set a tone of hope and acknowledgement that we are in control of our own destiny while the accompanying funky music video provided some much-needed relief.

The releases for Wax Tailor continued as he built towards his album, Shadow Of Our Suns which was released at the start of this year. The album showcased the vocals of numerous talented artists including Mark Lanegan in the rock-infused ‘Just A Candle’, Rosemary Standley the melancholic ‘Misery’ and Adeline in the mind-bending ‘Deja Vu’. You can read our full feature on the album here. The producer took time to introduce each of the artists on his socials and highlighting the reasons he chose to work with them.

This year, Wax Tailor continues to provide the world with new music, returning to and reworking his own sound into something new. The first of these remixes was our favourite – as he took on ‘Keep It Movin’ and reworked it, keeping a focus on the talented D Smoke’s vocals while infusing it with a bit more of Wax Tailor’s signature sound. Next, came the remixes for ‘Everybody’, originally featuring Del The Funky Homosapien and eventually receiving a remix from South African artist Kanif The Jhatmaster as well as Wax Tailor himself.

Musician Jerry Folk reinvents himself with indie-pop single

We love it when an artist reinvents themselves and we like to eagerly sit on the sidelines, watching which new way the producer may turn. Jerry Folk, with the launch of his side project, FENGSEL, has just done this. While his previous single, ‘Everything’, was in a closer style to his older work, ‘On My Way ft. Bearson’ (released today via Folkestad Recordings) takes a turn towards the indie-pop.

Jerry Folk tells fans about the creation of the video: “Bearson and I sat in the studio one day and tried to make something “medieval-sounding”. I put together a quick beat and Jakob (Bearson) freestyled some vocals over the track. We ended up making the whole song in an hour or so.”

Bearson is a longtime friend of Jerry Folk and has created official remixes for ZAYN and James Bay as well as working with Børns, Lemaitre and Anna Of The North. The two are both based in Oslo, but have created a single to spark the joy of travel in your heart. We hear news there’s an upcoming album in the works for Jerry Folk and we’re looking forward to seeing where this new path leads the artist. For now, if ‘On My Way’ isn’t completely scratching that Jerry Folk itch, we recommend you also check out the music video for ‘Everything’ here. However, we doubt you’ll need to. ‘On My Way’ is pretty spectacular by itself.

Organic orchestral composer Douran release jaw-dropping single ‘Inertia’

Dramatic is an understatement when describing Douran’s music as his latest single ‘Inertia’ puts on a whole production of sound waves within the span of just over three minutes. Released via Allo Floride Records, this single will feature on the young Parisian composer’s upcoming EP release Avalanche next Spring.

The producer shared his excitement about the release & additional nuggets of information about this latest release with his fans on socials, “The 1st single of my upcoming EP Avalanche will be out this Friday, with a remix by Joachim Pastor and a live session!”

Hopping between organic & ambient textures Douran creates a daring build-up of sound that feels like it was performed by a complete orchestra. The producer has also shared the stage with renowned electronica acts (such as Solumun and Tale Of Us). That being said, we can tell that this composer works like a loose cannon in the best sense. He takes risks and he is getting noticed in the process – it can only go up from here for this dynamic act.

Avant-pop singer Fifi Rong releases goddess-like music video

Haunting, lingering, and angelic vocals make avant-garde musician Fifi Rong the ideal candidate for electronic music collaborations of any kind. Though quite established in the public eye, the singer-songwriter has always remained passionate about the underground electronic scene in the UK. The singer has unveiled her latest music video for her single ‘Another Me’ and let’s just say it is a sight to behold.

Suggesting reference to Botecelli’s iconic painting The Birth Of Venus, the radiant goddess being Fifi Rong is tastefully nude whilst performing the vocals of ‘Another Me’ throughout the duration of the video. The singer is surrounded by a mesmerizing graphically enhanced ethereal landscape that compliments Rong’s delicate & feminine tone with this release.

The ‘Another Me’ video builds on the message of not letting a bad break up ruin your sense of self-worth. Another important theme Fifi focuses on is staying in a toxic relationship in order to feel a sense of belonging. Fifi Rong provides an authentic sound and badass attitude with all of her releases, reminding the listener to live their lives as they please – unapologetically.
